Our Defense needs a better pass rush and run D.

funny how we don't see franchise LT's hitting the open market or given the tag.

Read you're quote 4 pass rushers were franchise taged. Can't you read ??? Oh and you left this out.

Most people in our league understand the importance of the pass rusher," says Eric DeCosta, the Ravens' director of college scouting. "You're going to see a lot of these pass rushers come off the board quicker than some other positions. You left that out :shakeno:

Most mock drafts have the Dolphins taking Virginia end Chris Long No. 1 overall. Given that Miami is in the same division as New England, Long would be a sound selection. He should be able to help Miami defend Brady and Co. whether he lines up in a 4-3 defense or a 3-4 scheme, which is what he played in college. Thats for you who just think he's just a DE

I'm saying LT's don't get franchise tags because they are so valuable, teams lock them up with long term deals. they don't hit the open market for the same reason. pass rushers are tagged as a one year solution, their contracts are pushed back to be dealt with at a later date, if at all. if these guys were so valuable, why don't they receive long term deals? I put the quote in bold to show that many of these players also change teams every year, again showing they are not as valuable as LT's.
the quote from DeCosta speaks to when the pass rushers will be drafted, it has nothing to do with my post.
also don't you mean "your quote" instead of "you're quote"? a period might be helpful there too. and you ask 'can I read?'... can you write?

What the Super Bowl showed was not only do you need a "pass rush", you need a pass rush from the inside of the defensive line. Explosive DT's are a premium now.

Anybody have a good analysis on potential, opinion, on Quentin Moses? All I basically know is OAK drafted him 3rd round 2007, cut him, we picked him up...Thanx

Quentin Moses is a real unknown right now. He played fairly well last year as a 4-3 end. As a stand up OLB, its a real unknown. He is athletic enough to do it. Its just a matter of reps. Right now I dont think he is more than pass rush specialist, but he has enough talent to be kept on the roster this year and developed as long as he shows good ability in training camp. I believe he would play the WOLB position in our defense.

You can get a pass rush anywhere. Teams without elite sack artists like Jason Taylor, Dewight Freeney (sp?), and Michael Strahan have been doing just fine.

Look at teams like Philly, Pittsburg, Seattle, Washington, or even NE. They dont have an "elite" pass rusher, yet everyone of them manage to get good pressure on the qb. How? With their system. With the right defensive system, you can "generate" a pass rush from anywhere.

How many offensive systems can "create" QB protection with a poor Oline? NONE. Sure there are things you can do to help, like chip with a back or max protect, but in the end, poor protection will get you.

Sure a pass rushing specalist OLB is nice to have, but a franchise LT is esential to a teams longterm success.

So David Diehl, a OG for the most part of his career, is considered a franchise LT? Giants seem to do just fine with him at LT.

As for your argument for teams getting good pressue on QB's I believed to be flawed. Trent Cole did just fine for the eagles with 12.5 sacks. Pat Kerney had 14.5 sacks for the seahawks. James Harrison got 8.5 sacks for the steelers. Andre Carter had 10.5 sacks for the redskins.

System plays into it yes, i do not deny that, but there is a reason pass rushers are at a premium. if it was all about the scheme, then teams wouldnt value them so high. Without that elite pass rusher, teams would have to pin their ears back and blitz from different places all over the field, leaving them vulnerable to big plays.
