Michael Owen has not signed a new contract. He did not play in the Champions League qualifier yesterday which raises the chances that he could be sold. If he would have played, he would have been cup tied and thus if he was sold he wouldn't be able to play in the Champions League for his new club. By getting left on the bench, he still isn't cup tied and this keeps his sell value higher.

Oh man welcome to last week ;)

I doubt he gets sold, since Pool have very limited cover up front. That said, it would be a terriffic bit of business for Liverpool and for Owen, who would probably learn to play a more rounded game, and not simply rely on his (declining) speed.

 Just a small rumor I read that he said he would love to play for REAL.

Serious though, I did read it.

I have heard a rumor linking him to Real Madrid. However, Owen claims that "Liverpool is in his blood" but if it was, he would have signed that new contract right now. I think it would be stupid for Real Madrid to buy Owen. They would probably have to overpay to get him and they have bigger needs. Hopefully Real not paying attention to their defense (they signed Samuel but they need more than that) will cost them la liga and the Champions League.

If we sign Owen we don't need defense. We can play a 1-6-3...1 defense, 6 midfields, 2 forwards. :woot:

If we get Viera. You're talking about............

Casillias

Roberto Carlos, Helguera, Samuel, Salgado

Zidane, Beckham, Figo, Viera

Raul, Ronaldo

You mean to tell me this team will not have a good chance to win? Come on.

They do need a guy like Owen believe it or not because with all the games they play, just Ronaldo, Raul and Morientes may not be enough. Someone goes down and it's downhill.

With Viera now, this team has addressed it's two biggest gaps with World Class players.

This team is much more balanced and will have a better bench.

Especially if Real gets Owen, we'll be in tremendous play.

Liverpool should sell him.

They should consider selling him for the right price but they will have problems with depth at striker if they get rid of him. They will still have Baros and Cisse and those are two very good strikers but Baros is injury prone. Besides those two there is little. Sinama-Pongolle is young and besides him they pretty much have nothing. Diouf is crap and I think Le Tallec (very young too) is on loan somewhere. If they sell Owen, they need to bring someone else in. If they don't, they could be in serious trouble.

Diouf is not crap but he has been dissapointing.Didn't he get sold already or on a loan?

I know it has nothing to do with Owens but Liverpool should have conisder buying this player.

Sergio Herrera

One of Colombia Brightest star (Young too) got sold to Arabian team which sucks!

He lead Colombian league in goals last season and crowned the maximum goleador of the South American preolimpico Sub-23. He played less, wrote down more Herrera, that less played three parties than most of his nearer competitors due to the elimination of Colombia in the repechaje, turned five goals, surpassing with two his escorts.

I hate to see go him to Arab and I'm just amazed how no European team was interested.Hopefully his skills won't diminish over there and he will continue to show class over there.

I'm not sure how good is the quality of futbol played over there.Any one can fill me in?They got money to buy so I imagine they got some talanted teams over there.Recently,Alot of good Colombian players have been sold to clubs fro mthat region.

Teams in countries like the UAE and Qatar spend a lot of money but the quality isn't exactly the highest. They get a lot of old European players who were superstars a few years ago. Also, a few months ago, Qatar started to try to buy players who were not capped by their countries to play for Qatar. They were going to pay Ailton to play for Qatar (he was going to still play with his club team, Schalke 04, who he had signed a pre contract with before) but FIFA didn't allow it.

Owen is overrated and NEEDS to play all the time to get into rhythem. When he is injured it takes him time to come back and get in a groove, so without a great run of games at Madrid he will be crap. Like Mebeverine said, he is living off his declining speed. He offers NOTHING in linkup play.

Real need some depth. Their backline needs major strengthening, sure their starters look impressive on paper but they have no depth.

Vieira will be interesting. He has always had a defensive midfielder play with him for France and Arsenal, will he be able to cope on his own in Madrid?(if he goes...)

Qatar have been doing this for nearly 2 years, buying up Legends of the game to teach their players how to really play the game, how train, how to approach the game, etc. It will be 10 years at least before we find out if this has benefitted anybody but the bank accounts of the players involved.

All over Sky Sports News today is that Owen is poised to join Madrid for £8 million (about $13 million.) It's believed winger Carlos Nunez will be headed to Merseyside as part of the deal.

Diouf is not crap but he has been dissapointing.

Diouf is abysmal.

So we aren't getting Viera? But we are getting Owen? Can you say :woot:

Remember his goal against Portugal in the Euro Cup. That was class.
