Positional Needs

Boy how much better does this list look vs. even 5-6 weeks ago? Stunning.

Looking at it like this is honestly an indirect way of assessing how far the team can go this year if things fall right. The best teams look like this, where your biggest needs are because guys are set to be unrestricted free agents and your best/most appropriate off season plan probably involves re-signing most of your free agents, going after ONE semi-marquee free agent, maybe one mid-level player, and then just drafting the rest.

Some definite question marks going into the season that are no longer...QB, RB, CB1 CB2, NT2, MLB, OT1, OG1

The question marks remaining, we don't really need a great offseason to address, just a decent one.

I know RB isn't much of a need right now, but Cook, Fournette, Chubb, Perine, Hood, McCaffery, Clement, Gallman, Conner, Freeman...so many good ones available this year. I don't think taking one in the mid rounds is out of the question.

I'd definitely be looking for falling talent at RB - ideally, starting in the 4th.

I'm not convinced yet that this is a blowout RB class or anything so I'm not sure I'd target it.

Also, Foreman declared. That guy is pretty close to Fournette in my book, great power back. Reminds me of Ricky Williams.

Obviously, no longer a need unless the team is concerned about Ajayi's knees. Agree middle rounds, unless one of those top guys is there in the 2nd then you've got to consider it.

What are your thoughts on Foreman?

Here is a stab at how we can fill some of these positions by re-signing players:

Wide Receiver NEED (Full Time): Kenny Stills
Defensive End NEED (Full Time): Andre Branch
Tight End: NEED (Rotational): MarQueis Gray
Offensive Tackle NEED (Rotational): Sam Young
Linebacker NEED (Rotational): Donald Butler
Safety NEED (Rotational): Baccari Rambo

Then you have the marquee cost needs/wants, with some suggestions:

Offensive Guard NEED (Full Time): Kevin Zeitler, Bengals (premium contract)
Defensive End WANT (Future): Charles Harris, Missouri/Carl Lawson, Auburn (1st/2nd day draft pick)
Linebacker NEED (Full Time): Zach Cunningham, Vanderbilt/Anthony Walker, Northwestern (1st/2nd day draft pick)
Tight End: NEED (Full Time): Jeremy Sprinkle, Arkansas/Jordan Leggett, Clemson (2nd day draft pick)

Then you have the next tier of needs/wants:

Slot Corner WANT (Upgrade): D.J. Hayden, Raiders (mid-level contract)
Defensive End NEED (Rotational): Armonty Bryant, Lions/Margus Hunt, Bengals (low level contract)
Offensive Guard WANT (Future): Forrest Lamp, Western Kentucky (4th round draft pick)
Linebacker WANT (Hybrid SLB/PR): Ejuan Price, Pittsburgh/Tyus Bowser, Houston (3rd day draft pick)
Safety WANT (Hybrid S/LB): Matt Milano, Boston College/Weston Steelhammer, Air Force (3rd day draft pick)

Then you have stuff that I couldn't care less about:

Special Teams NEED (Long Snapper): Don't care
Special Teams WANT (Place Kicker): Don't care

I'd be interested in Cordarrelle Patterson. He should be relatively inexpensive, and in addition to being the best KR in the NFL, he's played great as a gunner, and he's improved some as a receiver.
