lets use Jamar Fletcher as the example.
http://www.finheaven.com/seasonal/salaries.php#cbs

He makes 1.405 million in 2004. if he is cut before june 1st, the salary chart says cap savings are 75k right?

but doing simple math would say his cap savings would be 305,000.

Salary-DW= cap savings
1.405 million-1.1 million= $305,000 thousand.

so why does miami only save 75k? or does "cap savings before 6/1" mean something else then what i think?

This quote was taken from the thread "Welcome to the FinHeaven Salary Cap Forum" it's stuck at the top.

Cap Savings before 6/1: the cap savings taking the “cap hit†column and subtracting minimum salary of $230,000 (Top 51 rule) and accelerated bonus amortization

During the off-season, the salary cap consists of the top 51 cap charges plus the bonuses from players not in the top 51. So when a player in the top 51 is released, the 52nd player now is added to the top 51

At this point, that 52nd player on Miami's roster has a salary of $230,000 and no bonus

FYI: The salary cap also includes other things like cap adjustment, injury settlements, etc

thanks merman and clump, very helpful.

Jamar Fletcher, Freeman, Marion, all of o line...too expensive and not worth it...o line always hurt. Jamar and Freeman have too many penalties...i say we concentrate on o line, drafting Philip Rivers(that's be nice)...and getting another linebacker...
