Click on this link to watch the clip. Two questions:

    1. Was this save during an actual game?

    2. Why didn't he just use his hands?

That was Rene Higuita during the England - Columbia game back in about 1996.

It was a "friendly" (exhibition) game, and it came at the right height so he just...did it! He didn't use his hands because he wanted to show off and create a little bit of fame for himself. He called it "the Scorpon Kick" and it's what he is famous for.

    Liquid, that is the Scorpion.
It was from the greatest Goalie ever Rene Higuita.
Unfortunately he became a coke addict like many of my Colombian Brethren.
Oh well, thanks for the clip it brings back memories.

He could have been one of the greatest if he was more focus on his career.

Uhh...I hope some of you guys aren't serious here...
You CANNOT call yourselves soccer fans if you think Higuita is worthy of any admiration... or at least have any credibility...
IMO if you want to talk about a good colombian player (well legendary over there) start with Valderrama...I'll give you that but Higuita ? Damn that guy wasn't even the best on his continent when he was playing (Toss up between Chilavert and Campos) :shakeno:
