The free agent/trading period is only just beginning and Super Bowl teams New England and Philadelphia look like they've fallen behind. Looks can be deceiving.
Although the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys got out of the gates quickly, the Patriots, Eagles, Tennessee Titans and Green Bay Packers lagged.
But it wasn't until mid-March last year that the Eagles got their deal for Terrell Owens done, and it wasn't until the week before the draft that the Patriots landed Corey Dillon.
Nobody is feeling sorry for either team.
Nobody is feeling sorry for the Titans, either, although there has to be a tad of sympathy from owners and general managers who know they could someday be in a similar predicament.
To get under the $85 million salary cap, the Titans had to release receiver Derrick Mason, cornerback Samari Rolle, tackle Fred Miller and defensive lineman Kevin Carter all on the same day only to watch all four sign lucrative deals elsewhere. The Titans also had to cut fullback Robert Holcomb and kicker Joe Nedney.
