This is a most excellent American HandEgg forum, but quite a often in VIP chat a few of us end up talking about proper football (much to the annoyance of hoops)

The sport seems to be bigger than ever in America these days and I know many yanks online who follow the sport very closely including a few here on FH. I thought I would see just how many on here follow it. I know loads of US based fans of English and Spanish teams but oddly I don't know a single MLS fan... any of you guys support an American team?

Personally I am a Manchester United fan and also support a team in the local semi-professional league in Northern Ireland - the quality inst great but I enjoy it.

I followed Series A for a while after studying abroad there. Going to a Fiorentina match was one of the best sports experiences of my life and I was instantly hooked (I can only imagine what a match at a bigger venue with better teams would be like).

When I was living in Dallas, I kept up with it and EPL pretty well. We also went to quite a few FC Dallas matches because they were a lot of fun and super cheap. I've also been to a couple of Toronto FC matches, which were awesome. They have a huge following there. Hard to get tickets.

Unfortunately, it's been hard to keep up recently. Just too much going on in life at the moment. I've gone to see a few matches at a local pub (watched Fiorentina yesterday actually), but really haven't been able to catch up.

never really watched much soccer until this year, and i must say, i really enjoy it.

there are games on pretty much daily here in the u.s, whether its on nbc sports network, fox sports 1 or 2, B E I N, all of these channels pretty much shower soccer daily.

still deff learning the sport as i dont understand it fully, and learning some of the players, but deff know a lot more than i did a year ago.

looking forward to watching real madrid at bayern munich tomm

bloody rugby tries to call itself football as well, so does gaelic here in Ireland - sports really need to stop stealing the word football lol

    What teams do you support?

ironically America is heaven when it comes to getting games on tv. UK TV laws are very strict to help with attendances; for example Saturday 3pm games can never be shown on live tv - ever, under any circumstances. And unlike the NFL you cant get any game for any team, you watch the games that have been picked for tv or nothing. So I watch a lot of US streams to fill in the blanks and I have to say the new network is a huge upgrade over fox who had awful awful awful studio analysts and commentators - it was so bad that I actually used to watch United games on mute whilst watching the streams. Also the new network seems to show every game, even the small teams which is damn impressive

"Football" isn't exactly my favorite sport, I really wish they would do away with all the diving and made it a tougher game (especially since I'm a Serie A fan). I lived in Rome for 2 years and experienced them winning the scudetto, which is the Serie A championship in the early 2000s. It was fantastic not that I have a great recollection of it but they don't make many fans like soccer fans, especially in North America. As a Canadiens fan I think that's as close as we have to a European sports team and fanatics. I've also played soccer for a long time, was always fun because everyone else were pansies and I was bigger...not like football where I had to play the farm boys.

I'm probably going to get season tickets. Not just because of him; I loved going to games when I was living in Dallas.

Liverpool i guess is leading the push for Fabregas which I would not mind one bit especially with CL games next year. As for that new team I have to agree with ya UK, I could see Lampard heading that way and adding to that team as another big name with the possibility of another one or two.

Liverpool is leading the push for fabergas? news to me, last I heard the only english team in for him is chelsea

Apparantly new york has offered deals to xavi and lampard. Big money as well. Would have been quite a team 4 years ago lol. Xavi really struggled last year maybe a year or two in the mls is a good fit

Interesting to see the oil money now sinking its teeth into the mls as well

Lampard and Xavi too? Wow. Of course Lampard is past it (I mean relative to what he was), and Xavi may have a couple years left, but he's definitely not what he was either. As an MLS fan, I'm don't really like this "ex-stars in their sunset years" strategy, but if it helps market the league, then maybe. As much as I'd love the quality of the football to market itself, I know in North America that's a difficult sell...

Yeah apparently Liverpool, Chelsea and City are all rumored to be looking at Cesc. And with these ex superstars I see it as a ploy to get people interested in the sport stateside.

Funny. If he brings a team down here I would not follow it.
    a) I don't like Beckham
    b) Calling a team Miami Beckham United or something like that is outright pathetic
    c) A south Florida team belongs in the tri-county area. It will fail if it is strictly Miami based.

Currently I am going with my friend to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers in the NASL. They average about 4500 per game. I used to go to the Fusion back in the days.

I watch some MLS games but, the quality of play is not close to the English Premier League, and even the Mexican league. IF there is a Miami team, I would watch and go to some games. Hell, I went to a number of Ft. Lauderdale Striker games years ago,

I hate it. There is a DC United. Plus Miami United was used before and is used again.
Miami United was short lived and rebranded into Miami FC in 2006. They drew like 20 people. Once they moved up to Fort Lauderdale they increased attendance. to maybe 2000-3000 average. The rebranding into Strikers in 2010 gave attendance an additional boost. Currently they draw about 4500-5000 which is pretty good for a minor league soccer team.

Currently there is a Miami United playing in Hialeah. They are playing in the NPSL.

If Beckham would have any smarts at all (I always considered him a numb nut) he would dig right into that. Move the team to the tri-county area and just redo Lockhard Stadium. It is a 20,000 seat crap stadium (its old) but the infrastructure is there (lights, utilities etc). Both areas behind the goals are bleachers and easily removed. The sideline seating is easily removed as well and can be rebuild. There is abundant parking areas plus the stadium sits on a lot right next to I95 and between two major East-West bound roads (Commercial and Cypress Creek Road). Can't have it any better than that.

Partner with Traffic Sports USA (who owns the Strikers) and name the team Florida Strikers. Keep the bumble bee jerseys and off we go.

Instead he pissing around in the port area and the downtown area and just stumbling around like an idiot.

Any major team requires the support of the tri county area. Joe Robby realized that first. The Panthers followed and the Marlins made the mistake moving back south. I believe the Dolphins and Panthers draw about 1/3 of their season ticket holders from the Palm Beach County area. I am one of them. I got my Panthers tickets immediately after they moved to Sunrise. It was just easier to get there.

Since moving to Italy in 2010' I have become a fan. My son played 2 seasons in high school and the World Cup in 2010 did it for me. Have to tell you that I was happy to see Italy go down in 2010 and 14 though I thought they got hosed.

Cant wait to close on our house, get the Dish installed and enjoy some EPL. Don't know enough about the teams to claim a favorite yet.

Just wanted to say I'm glad you guys let my beloved Shinji go too. Hey - did you ever see this video? It pretty much sums up his time at United.

And yes, your team is loaded now. No excuses (though I'm sure you'll manage to make up some as the season progresses). :chuckle:

You guys certainly signed a ton of top notch players. The signing of Falcao frustrated me the most though because when healthy.... an animal. I feel you on the pick up though. Maybe for both of our teams they just need to mesh and gel together more. Hasn't been an easy start but there is plenty of football left.

My Romans pulled through with a solid point today @ City! Was very pleased, considering we had our backup CB's, GK and missing Danielle De Rossi. Totti will forever be the king, what a showman even at 38.
