Minkah Fitzpatrick Would Like An Answer From The Dolphins On This Key Question

416 snaps at box safety which is where he does damage he’s a box safety your not going to have him covering for a long period of time and he’s used as a lb not a 3rd corner when he is in slot totally different player actually he is very similar to Rashad

No, he's not.

Maybe rewatch pats game your eraser looked extremely average at best Rashad just as good in the box

I think Minkahs strength is in fact his versatility. He’s a chess piece best served moving him around the field. He has to make couple of adjustments as a cover CB in terms of ball location but keep in mind he was a rookie.
I’m not sure what direction the team is taking but you can fix this Secondary with one move: examples- given our holes on OL/DL I would tend towards FA options below.

Option 1:
Draft: Greedy Williams or Baker Clemson.
X Greedy Minkah RJ McCain Solid Base nickel.

Option 2 FA: Sign Earl Thomas or Mathieu
X Minkah RJ Mathieu McCain Solid Base Nickel.

Option 3. FA: Sign Darby or Desir
X Darby RJ Minkah McCain Solid Base Nickel.

Pierre desir would interest me although the colts are a highly zone scheme and they got a ton of money to spend.

I would think they’d likely retain him. He’s shown well

In terms of minkah the athlete as a db I seem to recall he tested rather average at best and unless I’m mistaken rather poorly for a boundary corner.

Those test scores are why I think he came to you at 11 and didn’t go higher.

His explosion numbers were almost in line with Malcolm Jenkins when he came out. A converted college corner who tried his hand at corner in the pros and was drafted as a corner even before finding his ideal spot at safety.

Oh and I will pass on tyran Matthieu. I think the current version is overrated and as a result likely to be overpaid.

What’s the tape of the cb #1 for Clemson look like? He’s popped a few times for me live look. Ive got 2 tapes of his I’m gonna look at. Believe he’s a underclassmen.

He posted a 4.46 40 with a 1.52 10-yard split at the Combine. He didn't jump very well, but at his Pro Day, he posted a 6.73 3-cone and a 4.13 20 - all at 204 lbs. So, his speed and agility are very good.

I’m pretty sure these two tested almost exactly the same. That 3 cone and 10 yard split are nice that’s for sure.

I’m not someone who likes to post other analyst analysis as gospel or really cares that much what someone’s take is but I found this one with minkah to be pretty accurate with what I saw on tape of the player. Although he played nickel like his entire last year at Bama and I never liked and still don’t like the value of a nickel corner in the top 10.

Biggest difference in testing is that Jenkins ran a 4.59 40, which essentially precluded him from boundary CB. By contrast Fitzpatrick's 4.46 Combine 40 is 0.02 seconds slower than Xavien Howard's Pro Day 40 (or 0.12 seconds faster than his Combine 40).

Yeah cause pro day numbers are always inflated. And that video had Jenkins at 4.54 40

Anyways I disagree with any minkah lacks the range or instincts to play a plus center field ask free safety. During the preseason he got some centerfield looks and his range came off as high level. At least for me it did.

One time the other team snapped the ball before we were even set and minkah covered that ground like a gazelle and forced the incompletion on a ball he had no business getting to.

Now in the regular season he did take a flat angle on one over route in front of him resulting in a td as a centerfield ask but I think that was a just needs more reps thing.

Given he was playing slot he was practicing boundary he was getting second team safety reps etc. in practice lead up.

I think he can be good as a FS. I think his tools indicate that he can be a very good CB (better CB than FS imo), and CB is the more premium position. With his speed, I don't see him limited to the slot. He can play there, but I think he's a CB you can move around. His instincts look best near the line of scrimmage/in the box. Either way, he's a versatile DB, and that's obviously a plus. I'd like to see Miami add a player like Juan Thornhill or Mike Edwards or Darnell Savage and then another CB like Julian Love. As I mentioned in a previous post, I think the first three mentioned have some similarities to Fitzpatrick with regard to their versatility, but I think they're more inclined to play Safety. Love is a CB that, as long as he doesn't run slow (don't foresee it being an issue) can play inside or out. Importantly, all have excellent ball skills.

I do think Howard's speed is closer to his 4.44 40 Pro Day than his 4.58 Combine 40. Some guys handle the process better than others, and it can affect the numbers. Fitzpatrick jumped better, at a similar weight, coming out of HS.

Calm down man, the front office doesn’t determine what position a player will play on Sundays. That’s the coach’s call. If you want to be upset at the front office, focus on the fact we paid two SSs on big contracts with no way out. Minkah being a stud at slot and safety is not a problem.

You are right. I kind of flew off the handle there. I want Minkah at FS. That is where he belongs.
