“I think I’ve picked up on this ID’ing the middle linebacker,” said Rosen. “I’ve never had to make MIKE (LB) calls before. I think I’m starting to turn that a little bit into second nature, especially in the protection world. So I’m starting to be able to think a little less and play a little more.”

This is a huge revelation — because there is a ton of information at Rosen’s disposal as far as added responsibility before the snap in calling protections. With Rosen never having done this before, this considerably changes the expectations we as fans need to carry with Rosen. No wonder Rosen has been slow to make decisions — he’s figuring out a new offense and a foreign concept at the same time.

I think he's too smart for him to not get it at some point. I think he will adjust. If he fails as a QB, I doubt it'll be because of that.

I mentioned this before but I dont think people realize how bad the situation in Arizona was last year. A lot of people in positions they should not have been in and Rosen got destroyed... even by rookie QB standards. We basically have to rebuild him. Maybe he gets there maybe he doesnt

the easy answer here is coaching ... who knows the last time he was actually coached, instead of got out there and do your thing.

said after we got him, we do NOT want to see him under center until like half way through the season ... so he can be coached and actually be set up for success - if there is any to be had.

last year was a colossal failure ... and a total wash ... he needs at least up to the break to learn, get some confidence, then go out and execute!!

And meanwhile in Arizona rookie QB Murray has seemed to pick up the playbook with ease.

And how does anyone excuse or make excuses for a NFL QB not being able to ID the MIKE until his 2nd year?

Guys, like I said ID'ing the Mike isn't the point. That's easy for any quarterback to do. How you ID the Mike doesn't change whether it's NFL, college or high school.

Don't get focused on that part.

What they're trying to get Rosen to understand are the responsibilities of the other defenders and where the windows are going to be based on his pre snap read. What the options are going to be. But he has to master the protections first by ID'ing the Mike. Then they'll try to get him to understand who the flat defender is based on where the apex linebackers are - and whether or not this guy is responsible for carrying the wheel route first and rallying to the flat, etc. Then whether or not the MOF is going to be closed or open.

Just from reading others observations of what's been going on with him in practice, I believe understanding where the windows are going to be and understanding which defenders are responsible for what are things he hadn't learned yet, and why he was throwing some picks and attempting throws into windows that aren't designed to be there as options. Checking it down is showing that he's beginning to understand where the windows are NOT going to be.

The defense is going to tell you where to go with the football once you understand where the windows are going to be. They're teaching him how to read defenses, and make him understand that the QB is going to be responsible for the protections in this offense. Which is the first thing he has to master in order for them to put him out there. Then the curl/flat - then the MOF - so on and so forth.

The deep shots are going to come last. Fitzpatrick is further along and quicker at identifying whether or not the MOF is open or closed, which is why he takes more deep shots. It's a process. They're bringing him along like a rookie.

He's a smart kid, he will figure it all out quickly.

Him playing behind Fitz is a GOOD thing.

There is a lot he can learn from the vet.

I expect to see him take over after a month or two, but who knows how it will play out?

They are BOTH under contract.

Our QB situation is MUCH better now than it was last year.

Fitz played very well at times last year. Rosen's ceiling is HIGH.

Either guy is a major upgrade

You do know he already knows that O, much like Tannehill when he came to us. It wasn't new to Murray. That's why that coach wanted him.
