This is all a part of the Dolphins’ grand scheme to return to prominence — remember that. Late Tuesday night it was revealed by the Miami Herald’s Adam Beasley that the Miami Dolphins and wide receiver Jakeem Grant were close to agreeing on a 4-year extension to keep the speedster in South Florida.

By Wednesday morning, the deal was done — Grant will be a Miami Dolphin for years to come.

This approach by the Dolphins front office is a continuation of the approach they took with Xavien Howard. It is a deliberate effort to “take care” of their own before the temptation of greener pastures ever enters the mind of their young talent. The Dolphins will not bat 1.000 in making draft selection — no one ever does. So when you find talent, it doesn’t really matter what round it comes from, you need to preserve it and reward it.

You'd have to imagine they'd reassured Tunsil by this point:

"Hey we're gonna have a **** ton of money coming off the books next summer, be patient, kick ass like you always do and you''ll be rewarded."

I like Grant and am glad we're keeping and building with him. I also like the approach to nail guys down before they are on free agency's doorstep. Not all of those decisions will be right, but on average it should create continuity, lower our salary cap long-term, and let Coach Flo build the team he wants.

Can't wait to see Gant and Wilson over a full season. Not to mention, Williams.

Count me in as well... Just have doubts about Wilson after all this time, no surgery and yet still recovering.

Zero expertise in this area but it's certainly seems to be a ? as to how much he can recover, will the

joint be stable, and what if anything will he lose in terms quicks, cuts, explosion etc.

Yea there is no rush with Laremy. You have him secured for another year plus he is a prime candidate for the franchise tag if it came down to it. Hope is you play out 2019, he has a great season, and you lock him up through 2025 in the off-season.

I think the Reshad Jones type of deals are over. They extended him twice with 2 years remaining and both times he made "a statement" by missing some sort of camp.

X was on his final year and showed up to all the voluntary stuff ready to work. Same with Jakeem. It's a big reason I wanted Jarvis to stay because he far outperformed his deal and always showed up and was great in the community (I get why we didn't extend him as well).

Time to stop falling prey to these primadonna tactics and reward the ones that want to be here and puts in the work, voluntary or not.

I have an issue with you calling it prima donna when it's simply good business.

You are right, it's a business, good for Reshad and shitty for Miami. Hopefully the days of thinking a SS is the best player on the team, to the point of giving in to his demands with 2 years left just to see him quit in the middle of a game, are over.

Is pulling yourself out of a game is good business? He is a G with prima donna tendencies.....

Big deal, Gase and company were completely clueless on how to coach a defense.

Sure he made a mistake, but watch how he plays this season with a proper defensive coordinator.

Clean slate.

Reshad was overpaid, but people forget how good he is at football which is why they couldn't afford to lose him (like all the other homegrown talent they've lost in recent years such as OV and Juice), he will remind everyone this season.

At least grier has moved quick to resign as many guys as possible before their final year. He's also making the deals beneficial for both parties which is smart.

He certainly handled this better than tannebaum and his wait till the end and then resign everyone approach. Now all we have to worry about is tonsil and I'm confident we will get him his money

And possibly K. Drake, he's from that class as well. Hmm, that wasn't a bad draft come to think of it.
