What if.......

we traded down and drafted Alex Barron around 9,10,11.
We're looking at Barron / Carey for the future at the tackle spots.
This (granted they both grow to what they are capable of doing), could be a force on the corners for years to come.

Does anyone think this might work?

Explain how we trade down and who we trade down with.

Sounds interesting, though I'd like some insurance in case another Wade Smith comes along.

Nah it's a weak year for tackles. We get our RB this year and next year we can have a solid LT prospect fall to us even if we go 8-8. There are 3 solid OT's already for next years draft.

It also gives Houck a year to see what he can do with what we got and who gets to stay and who goes. Who knows maybe he turns Carey into a solid LT or improves Wade Smith to be solid at LT. We just don't know yet.

Would be ideal to me, however I think if we want to get Alex Barron we would have to trade somewhere a little bit earlier than 9 or 10. Probably more like 7 or 8. He's impressing people over in Indy and is rising fast (as he should, he's a very good prospect in his own right, everyone just keeps lamenting that the other tackle prospects didn't come out without stopping to pay attention to the fact that Alex Barron is a premium tackle)

I don't know...maybe it could never work out.
I was just wondering that.....if it could....could these 2 guys do the job and grow into something special at the tackle spots.

we'll see but they look they are positioning themselves to go with what we have on the OL, especially if we keep D Mc at LT. RB just seems to obvious a need to pass up. I c/see us trading down and getting someone other than Benson or Brown (or Cadi, even) to get a 2nd rder.

It may be a weak year but there isnt a LT in next years draft thats as good as Barron.

Just because there are good LTs available next year, doesn't mean you should ignore an excellent prospect this year. The only LT that could have come out this year that would probably have beaten Barron on the draft boards is Eric Winston, sans injury issues. D'Brickashaw Ferguson would have made a run at it, but the numbers that Barron is putting up in Indy would have put his challenge down, I'm fairly confident. Barron was considered on most draft boards to be better than Ferguson, then Ferguson began riding a late wave of popularity slightly before his declaration that he will not come out, and now he's being thought of as better than Barron simply because he is NOT working out and everything so people are not seeing them next to each other, but Barron is a better prospect if you ask me.

People should stop excusing not taking Barron by talking about the LTs that will come out next year. Barron is better than most of them.

Yeah they could. Especially with Houck coaching them.

Your kidding me right?

D'Brickashaw Ferguson or Marcus McNeil would have been ahead of Barron if they declared this year let alone when they are in the draft next year. Any normal year and Barron woulda slipped to early round 2.

I think we have enough young lineman. Carey, Hadnot, Whitley, Mckinney, Smith, St. Claire is only 27, Jeno and Macntosh is in their late twenties. I really see no point. We need a Veteran (or 3)

1. Barron is only being considered becuase of the incredibly weak draft class for Left Tackles. Next year, when D'Brickashaw Fergason comes out, will be much improved.
2. We would be paying high money for a potentially average player in Barron.

Does anyone know what Carey's cap number is?
