Looking back on the 05' draft. Saban was in charge, there was alot of optimism and excitement going into the season about our new coach, and a common belief that within a few years we could become a good team under Saban.

He drafted:

1 Ronnie Brown - I <3 Ronnie Brown.
2 Matt Roth - Solid Starter.
3 Channing Crowder - Starter.
4 Travis Daniels - No longer on team
5 Anthony Alabi - No longer on team
7 Kevin Vickerson - part of Titan's D-line rotation.

Ronnie Brown showed flashes in his rookie year, while Matt Roth, CC, and Travis all started or played as rookies as the team went 9-7 in our first year under Nick Saban.

2006 Draft. Talks of playoffs creeped up after the Dolphins finished strong in 05' and were poised for another solid draft under Mastermind Saban.

RD1 #16 Jason Allen S/CB - Special teams contributer/ 5th corner.
RD3 #82 Derek Hagan WR - Bust. Not on team.
RD4 #114 Joe Toledo T - Not on team.
RD7 #212 Fred Evens DT - Not on team.
RD7 #226 Rodrique Wright DT - Not on team.
RD7 #233 Devin Aromashodu WR - not on team.

Wow... Saban kinda dropped the ball on this one... maybe one of the worst drafts in Dolphin's history. Dolphins finish 6-10 as they fail to build on the 06' draft. Saban signs with Alabama within weeks of denying any interest in coaching colligete football.

2007 Season. Cam Cameron is in. No one really knows too much about him, but he was the OC for the Chargers, and their offense was good, so he must've been an offensive guru. He goes on to draft:

1- Teddy Ginn (& his family)- Current #1 reciever on a weak recieving core.
2- John Beck - We all know what happend.
2- Samson Satale - We traded Welker for this pick. Oakland starting C.
3- Lorenzo Booker - Notttttt on the team.
4- Paul Soliai - back-up NT. shows promise.
6- Drew Mormino - Not on team
6- Reagan Mauia - ""
6- Kelvin Smith - ""
7-
Brandon Fields - Starting, and probably leading the league in tallness.
7- Abraham Wright - ""

So Ted Ginn hasn't really shown that he can truly be a dynamic #1 reciever. Paul Soliai has hopes of one day replacing Jason Ferguson, and Brandon Fields is still the punter. Not exactly an impact draft. We finish 1-15. Bye Cam Cam. Atleast he signed Joey Porter.

2008. Bill Barcells in the building yall. & we just hired a fictional italian mobster as our HC. Expactations are low.

08' draft:

1- Jake Long - Probowl rookie season. He's gonna be a good one.
2- Phillip Merling - Shows flashes. Prototypical 3-4 DE size.
2- Chad Henne - 2 wins in 2 starts. Lets see what he can do.
3- Kendall Langford - Starter since day 1. Playing excellently.
4- Shawn Murphy - Traded
6- Jalen Parmele - Not on active team
6- Donald Thomas - Starting RG, and a pretty good one.
6- Lex Hilliard - 3rd string RB.
7- Lionel Dotson - 3rd string DE.
FA- Davone Bess -...score...

Number one pick in the draft. Were in need of a QB, do we take Ryan? Nope, Jake Long is signed days before the draft. He makes probowl in his rookie year. Chad Henne has his chance now. Donald Thomas is a mauler at RG, and Hilliard and Dotson provide depth as low draft picks. Kendall Langford has been playing good football since game 1, and if Merling steps up, we could have our 3-4 ends for years to come. Davone Bess had 55 catches as a rookie... stealll...

We sign Chad Pennington in the preseason. The wildcat is born. We find ourselves in the playoffs at 11-5, and the rest is history. A loss to Baltimore in the playoffs left a bad taste in our mouth but, with the "trifecta" at the helm, a season removed from one of the greatest turn arounds in team history. Expectations are high, Parcells cant miss with the draft. Playoff's here we come.

09' draft:

  • 1st Round - Vontae Davis (CB) - Pick six against Buffalo. Promise?
  • 2nd Round - Pat White (QB/WR) - Future of the WC.
  • 2nd Round - Sean Smith (CB) - Freak at corner for years to come?
  • 3rd Round - Patrick Turner (WR) - lost?
  • 4th Round - Brian Hartline (WR) - can play all 3 reciever positions.
  • 5th Round - John Nalbone (TE) - 3rd TE
  • 5th Round - Chris Clemons (S) - 2nd string safety
  • 6th Round - Andrew Gardner (OT) - Longs back up
  • 7th Round - J.D. Folsom (LB) - Practice squad?
3 straight losses to open the season is not what we had in mind. Our defense looked confused, and continued to get torched. Our offense looked far more anemic than anyone had thought. Panic sets in with full force throughout Finheaven nation. All is lost... 38-10 win at Buffalo, win over Jets on primetime television in dramatic fashion, and now were a win over the Saints from proclaiming our selves the best team in the league.

Lets take a look at our current starting roster though.

QB- Chad Henne
RB- Ronnie Brown
RB- Ricky Williams
TE- Anthony Fasano
WR- Ted Ginn.
WR- Greg Camarillo
WR- Davone Bess
LT- Jake Long
LG- Justin Smiley
C- Jack Grove
RG- Donald Thomas
RT- Vernon Carey

This offense could use a playmaking reciever. R&R make a great tandem at RB and the line has played lights out. But overall it's a young offense that could be really good depending on how the WC develops and how Henne continues to preform. Bowe at a discount price would've been real nice..

LDE- Kendall Langford
NT- Jason Ferguson
RDE- Randy Starks
SLB- Jason Taylor
ILB- Akin Ayodele
ILB- Channing Crowder
WLB- Joey Porter
CB- Will Allen
CB- Sean Smith
FS- Gibril Wilson
SS- Yeremiah Bell.

Can Merling step up? ILB is a position in need of a talent upgrade, Jason Taylor and Joey Porter continue to get older. Jason Ferguson is 34 playing NT. and if our safety's continue to play they way they have been playing then we may be in need of an upgrade at both positions. Sean Smith and Vontae seem to be the future at corner.

So looking at next years draft, here are a few positions of interest.

OLB -This is an aging defense in need of future OLB's to replace JPeezy and JT.

ILB -Akin Ayodele has been serviceable, and Channing is average, and has has trouble getting involved in the passing game or blitzing. So a stud ILB would be nice.

S -Safetys? Can you step up and earn your big contracts?

NT- J Ferg. is getting old.

WR- Dynamic playmaker could open up the offense for Henne and take pressure off Ginn.

We are building a dynast on offense, our offense is so young and vey good.. Ricky will need to be replaced soon and if we get a true young WR1, like Bowe (25) we will have a true dynasty.. I think this is what we should do... draft ILB in the 1st and get Mcclain or Spikes (trade up if need be) and draft a great OLB in the 2nd, and the rest where we see fit.. then we can trade some picks for someone like bowe in the preseason because the next years draft isnt expected to be rich with many juniors coming out this year and us probably being a playoff team with a late pick.. idk jus my opinon.. but add Bowe to those WR and take out Camarillo, find someone to replace Ricky in a year or two and sign someone like Wilfork or Demeco Ryans and i think we could be SB caliber..

pipe dream ik but i do lik the direction we are headed.. our last 2 drafts have been above average imo

Miami needs to stockpile on linebackers. Inside and out. Porter and Taylor are getting up there in age. and our inside linebackers are below average to average.

The offense is really young, and like I said it could be a real good one depending on Henne's development and a game changer at WR.

As far as our LB's. JT & Jp are old. Can Roth be a solid starter? Can Wake develop into a complete LB? This will determine how much attention we pay to OLB's in next april's draft. - Crowder, in my mind, is ideally the 2nd ILB standing next to a stud.

lets find some possible way to get both Brandon Spikes AND Rolando Mcclain! thatd be absolutely amazing. impossible ik but i cannot even imagine how great that would be.. wow.

You might want to take RW out of there seeing how he isnt the starting RB on our team and if that was the case that would be 12 starters

I also put 3 receivers. and if Joey Haynos was a solid contributor at TE, he'd be on that list too.

it surprises me how much Polite is overlooked. especially after a game like the jets game he had. He's very important to the dolphins run game.

or we could do Brandon Spikes or Rolando McClain in the first and do Obi Ezeh/ Sean Lee/ Micah Johnson in the second round and do a WR in the 3rd round

With guys like Lorenzo Neal and Tony Richardson out of the game or declining in ability, there's not many truly great blocking fullbacks left in the game. Fullbacks are more and more dependant on scoring and catching balls than blocking these days (LeRon McClain, Heath Evans, Mike Karney, Leonard Weaver, just to name a few), which leaves great blockers like Polite and Deon Anderson with Dallas overlooked.

IK, it was a dream.. i agree that would be a great draft assuming that they pan out how they are projected but no WR in the 3rd. im tired of taking 3rd and 4ths on WR, lets face it, chances of finding a true #1 in the 3rd are very slim, chances of finding a 1000th WR2 or WR3 for this team are good but we dont need another one.

either get it over with and use a 1st on it which i dont suggest this year, or get 1 in FA/Trade, stop trying to get lucky FO.

If we draft any of the following I would be happy safety Taylor Mays of USC or Eric Berry of Tennessee, linebacker Rolando McLain of Alabama or Spikes of Florida, DT Suh of Nebraska or McCoy of OKlahoma, or wr Dez Bryant of OSU or Damian Williams of USC.

#2 don't you have to be a starter to be a solid starter :chuckle: (he did do well last year but that was last year)
#3 He shouldn't be but sadly that is the best we got. but hey he says funny stuff a lot....:crazy::(

It's too bad Roth is having so much injury trouble. I'm thinking he and Wake could take up where JT and JP leave off.
