10-19 Michael Lombardi on Joe Rose - interesting comments

it has already been reported that ross will do everything possible to land a "star" head coach. If that means dumping ireland, that will happen. Ross knows what he is doing.

agreed!!!

I give him credit for going after Harbough in the first place.

Well said. The "clueless" and "not smart" comments are getting old. Ross hasn't made one major football decision yet as owner and yet some think he doesn't know what he is doing.

I keep hearing the old line "He doesn't care about winning". If that was true he wouldn't have looked at Harbaugh after last season and wouldn't be putting together a plan to land a franchise QB and a "star" head coach. He wants to sell tickets(every owner does), but he knows a good team will do that. People bash him over the Orange carpet and celebrity owners but that is more about the game day experience and is not related to the team itself. Obviously the team is the most important thing, but Ross also wants to make the game day experience as great as possible for YOU the fan. He is continuing to upgrade the stadium and the surrounding area.

Let's let Ross actually make a major football decision before concluding he doesn't know what he is doing. It is like someone saying today that Mitt Romney is a clueless president, yet he hasn't made a presidential decision yet or even been elected. Some of you are jumping the gun on him and really just basing it on the stuff he has done beyond the football team. You don't become the second richest NFL owner if you don't know what you are doing.
In this case....its not the deciions he is making, its the decisions he isnt making!

Harbaugh's wife had no desire to uproot their family and move from the Bay Area. Happy Wife = Happy Life.

Harbaugh had no desire to do anything other than use Ross's public bungling attempt to court him as leverage for more $$ or more autonomy with SF, despite what Lombardi asserts. I suspect that had Ross done it the right way, quietly sending an emissary to feel Harbaugh out, Harbaugh's agent would still have made sure that the media and SF were aware of the avid interest.

Ross got played. While he did the right thing, he did it all wrong in not ****canning Tony first and allowing his meeting to become an embarrassing spectacle complete with Ireland and Carl Peterson.

And that's the reality.

It was reported several times Harbaugh got cold feet because sources were telling his agent he would be black balked for stabbing Sparanos back. The Ireland thing is true Harbaughs camp even said he didn't want to work with Ireland.

You certainly don't get where Ross is by being a dumba**

Patience folks. I am HOPING Ross is in it for the long-run. Much like Jerra Jones here in Dallas, he knows business and he also knows the best business for the Phins is to win. He will do what it takes...unlike the Bengals moronic owner who's ego is bigger than his common sense.

I think he will tinker and tinker until he gets it right. Not like he can just go read a book and understand how to be an NFL owner. He will eventually get it right, and when he does, he will do what it takes to stay on top.

EDIT: The short-falling Ross has had to date is turning the "Atmosphere" at the stadium into a traveling freak show. I also think he will rectify that when he realizes that's also not going to bring him revenue

Despite his indecisiveness . . . he picked a great year to be indecisive because this draft definitely can be rewarding QB wise for a team in need of one. It could end up being fate if the Dolphins land a QB like Luck, Barkley or whoever and they turn into a bonafide franchise QB.

He gets a pass for last offseason, between all the lockout nonsense and what have you . . . . he has to get it right this offseason. I completely agree that he WANTS to get it right, despite being in it as a successful business. He is a fan as well, I wouldn't underestimate that about Mr. Ross. Winning means alot to him.

Probably true, but is essentially "back story" since Mrs Harbaugh, like Mrs Palmer had a specific geographic mandate and Harbaugh having turned Stanford around, already was like a king in SF.

Not many owners not named Jerra Jones would go after 2 high value FA's like Dansby and Marshall their first year in the stirrups...well, except for the mushbrain that owns the Redskins...hoping we don't actually have Snyder part deux......

Yep, I think there is MUCH truth in this. Staying in his "Comfort" zone for many reasons was a key to him staying in San Fran.

Truth is, IF Harbaugh really had an issue with Ireland, I have zero doubt he could've swayed the scales so that IF he came in, Ireland was not included in the picture.

Lombardi is very good at mixing truth and his story into one. That is how he keeps the reputation but at the same time, adds flare to the obvious

boy are we in trouble, as long as ross is the owner, let say he gets rid of ireland, carl peterson is the guy lined up for gm, the good thing he is better than ireland, we just need a good comb of head coach and gm, can't wait to see who that would be, pleast let the coach be fisher

Nubs he made a decision to pursuit Harbaugh while employing Sparano and we are seeing the result. A huge mistake but I am not going to throw out the book on him because of it. If what has been recently published about his stopping the Orton deal and recognizing the importance of a franchise QB then he does deserve a lot of credit.

Out of curiosity, why Fisher?

If we had given up more than a 4th for Orton, I would have been VERY disappointed.

7mil a year is a hell of a incentive to change your location! I wouldn't be surprised if his brother warned him off too. What we Di know is both Harbaugh and Cowher won't work with Ireland!
