Here is a look at ten players that need immediate address once the season concludes and the league new year begins.

1-Lamar Miller
Impending free agent
Re-sign or let go?
That is a big question to ask. In this day and age of the NFL the running back position is considered to be interchangeable. Very few teams have single featured franchise running backs. For the Dolphins, the question will be Miller’s potential and production vs. his salary demands.

2-Derrick Shelby
Impending free agent
Re-sign or let go?
If I’m the Dolphins I’m keeping Shelby.
Shelby is starting to come on strong now that he is seeing far more action on the field since Cameron Wake’s injury.

3-Olivier Vernon

Impending free agent
Vernon has been stellar the last month of the season. On Sunday against the Ravens he registered 2.5 sacks to bring his season total to 6.5. For his career, Vernon has 28 sacks with 11 of those coming in his 2013 sophomore season

Re-sign or let go?
If I’m the Dolphins I’m letting him go.

4-Cameron Wake

$9.8 million cap number
Wake is on the other side of 30 and is starting to break down. Earlier this season Wake dealt with hamstring issues, then he tore his Achille’s.
Restructure or release?

If the Dolphins release or trade Wake they will save over $8 million on the salary cap and carry less than $2 million in dead money. That $8 mill pays for Miller and Shelby. The Dolphins would be very wise to approach Wake about a restructure to his contract that will drive that cap number down without hurting the team in future years.

5-Jordan Cameron
$9.5 million cap number
When Cameron was signed by the Dolphins it was a good indication that the Dolphins finally realized the need for a big red-zone/seam threat tight end.
Restructure or release?
Miami will save $7.5 million by letting the tight-end go and that is the route I would go as well.

6-Dion Jordan
$6 million cap hit
bust bust bust bust

Release or retain?
I will cut my losses and move on. The Dolphins would save around $3 million. The expression "fu.k on" comes to mind.

7-Greg Jennings
$5.5 million cap hit
Greg Jennings was a big mistake for the Dolphins. This is a Joe Philbin player by far. I don't know who's worse legedu Naane or greg Jennings.

Release or retain?
The Dolphins will eat about $1 million in dead money should they release him but will save $4 million and there is no way that Jennings comes close to warranting that kind of salary.
No brainer, cut his asc!

8-Rishard Matthews
Impending free agent
Matthews has had a career season in 2015 and has really parlayed his time on the field into a new contract come next season. The question is whether it will be in Miami.

Resign or let go?
The Dolphins have limited options here given the money they have tied up on offense. At some point in the next two years Miami will have to re-sign Jarvis Landry and that won’t be cheap. Matthews is a good football player but he isn’t great.
I think Miami should do whatever it takes to sign this guy and have the WR set in tact for next season. This is Charles Clay scenario all over again. A WR starved team like NE would turn this guy into a star.

9-Branden Albert
$10.15 million against the cap
Albert has battled injuries since his arrival in Miami. Last year he ended the season on IR and this year began the season injured.
Restructure or release?
This is a tough one folks!

The Dolphins don’t have a lot of options here. If they released him they would eat over $5 million while saving about $5 million making it a wash but the Dolphins would be hard pressed to replace him. Add to that the line issues the team currently has and Miami has only one real option. Restructuring his contract.

10-Brent Grimes
$9.5 million cap hit
Grimes is unquestionably the best cornerback Miami has on the roster. His salary however is too high for the production that Grimes is starting to put on the field. At his best, Grimes is worth every penny but more and more Grimes is starting to show signs of age. His production this year has been inconsistent but he still is one of the best defenders on the team.
Restructure or release?
To think the Dolphins may part with Grimes is hard to fathom. The Dolphins have no other corners ready to step up to a starting role and the Dolphins are already trying to find a suitable corner to start opposite him. If I’m the Dolphins I’m approaching him about a contract restructure that will benefit both the team and Grimes.

Keep Grimes, Matthews, Wake. If Sean Payton is our new HC this offseason, then keep Cameron. He'll utilize the TE spot, guaranteed.

Vernon is developing into one of the better 4-3 DEs in the league and some of you want to let him walk? Pass rushers are hard to come by and he hasnt even peaked as a player.
Unbelievable. He's been a terror the last few weeks.

I don't think I try TOO hard to keep Matthews, depending on how much money he wants. Don't get me wrong - really appreciate the work he's put in and he was under-utilized before this year. But the WR group is going to be strong even without him (with Parker, Landry, and Stills, maybe a FA). He'll just eat up close to Brian Hartline money and that's $ better spent elsewhere.

Yes, he'll do well on another team, but are you really AFRAID of him?

Also need to address the fans. #1 thing holding this team down.

Well, how much are they asking? Dead money consequences?

Resign shelby, should be cheap. Bring back miller for 4-5 a year. He can be deadly if used correctly. Resign vernon for 7-8 million a season, anymore than that and let him walk. Matthews, you have to bring back and his recent injury may actually help us in bargaining since he wont finish with a big number season like he was on his way to doing. If we can get him for 3-4 million then do it. As for wake and grimes, if they cut that salary in half then bring them back. Wake is a tough one since achilies is a killer for explosion but maybe with a change of stance he can regain form. For 4-5 million id take that chance but for 8 you let him walk sadly. Same with grimes, by far our best corner but no longer a #1 in this league and we dont want thw hassle or finding two starting qbs. Try to being back grimes at 5-6 million to be our #2 corner. This can all be done easily with room to sign a few big free agents if we use the clause in tannehill and suhs contract. However using that clause means both tannehill and suh will be here til 2018/2019. Question is, do you sacrifice the future for a potential quick fix? A lot of people dont like tannehill so this is debateable. Id restructure both though, while tannehill may not be the next marino, brady, manning i think he can be a depandable starter if we fix the oline and give him a solid consistent run game. I just dont want to go back to the constant qb rotation of cleo lemon, ray lucus and sage rosenfels for another 13 years idc how average tannehill might be.

Restructure Albert, Wake and Grimes.

Re-sign Shelby, Vernon (for 6m or less), Matthews (4m or less), Miller (4m or less)

Cut the rest.

I would restructure both Wake and Cameron. As others have pointed out, if we get a HC that uses TEs in the pass game he'll be fine - no one is going to pay him $9mm. I keep Vernon, Shelby and Matthews. Jennings, Dion Jordan are gone. If I can resign Miller great, if not ok.

All depends on what they want in salary.
The obvious answer is no to Jordan you could find a guy at 2 million or less at his ability who might actually be disciplined enough to not get caught with steroids or drugs three friggin times.

Jennings should be cut , easy decision.
Jordan Cameron needs to take a huge paycut at least in half to keep.
Wake I dont have any issue pay him next year and carry on. At worst extend him one season and reduce money.

Miller and Vernon it all depends on the money they ask for.
At the right price they are good resigns at the wrong price they are an albatross around our salary cap.

I like Selby as a backup but dont want to pay him Earl Mitchell type of money. He is not worth starter money.

I like Matthews back at two years 8 million or basically what Jennings makes. If he wants big money we have too much invested in Landry and Parker to go all out.
Grimes and Albert are difficult decisions
