Combine notes
I. Jake Long- Massive (6’7 313 lbs.), Amazing strength (37 bench reps), Good feet and explosion off the line.
II. Dustin Keller- (6’3 242 lbs), 38’’ vertical, 4.53 40 yard dash. 2nd best in bench reps with 26. Needs to work on blocking. Might be better fit as an H-back. Very comfortable getting down field and catching the ball, shows great leaping ability. Looked athletic and caught the ball with his hands in the gauntlet.
III. Otah, C. Williams, and Clady- need to upgrade strength. Probably more effective pass blockers. Otah ran a very slow 40 yard dash.
IV. John Carlson- not in top 10 of either the 40 yard dash or bench reps. Showed great hands in the gauntlet. Looked comfortable in all the pass catching drills.
V. Fred Davis- (6’4 248 lbs), 24 bench reps, did not run the 40 yard dash, dropped way too many passes. He may have lost the #1 tightend spot. Brad Cottam, Kellen Davis, Jermichael Finley, and Jacob Tamme all improved their stock.
VI. Desean Jackson- (5’9 169 lbs) 4.31 40 yard dash. 10 ft broad jump. Explosiveness and return ability keeps him in the top 20 of the draft.
VII. Eddie Royal- (5’10 182 lbs) Looked impressive and improved his stock. Ran a good 40 at 4.46, benched 24 times (most out of receivers). 36’’ vertical (1 inch higher than Sweed)
VIII. QB’s- Joe Flacco made good throws and ran in the 4.7 range. Chad Henne looked like a solid 2nd round pick. Brian Brohm looked good throwing the ball and also ran in the 4.7 range. Matt Ryan couldn’t hurt himself today because he didn’t throw but ran a slow 40 somewhere in the 4.9 range. Andre Woodson didn’t do anything at the combine and imo he has dropped himself into the 4th or 5th round. Josh Johnson also looked impressive running a 4.40 forty yard dash.
IX. RB’s- DMAC ran an official 4.33, Chris Johnson ran an official 4.24 (fastest of the day), Rashard Mendenhall and Jonathan Stewart also ran well.
X. The buzz:
QB- Joe Flacco, looked very good throwing the ball and can move for a big guy.
RB- Darren MacFadden, because of his hype he gets the most buzz along with running a 4.33 forty.
WR- Eddie Royal, overall worked out the best for the receivers. Jerome Simpson’s broad jump was a whopping 11’4†(almost a foot more than next best)
TE- Dustin Keller, workout warrior and looked great catching the ball, but can he block?
OL- Jake Long, he really just tore it up and proved he is the unanimous #1 offensive tackle.
