For every big day, they had a bad day. "Things always even out for me,'' as Seinfeld said.

Let's look at 10 plays that defined another evening-out, 8-8- season for the Dolphins:
1.Cameron Wake’s sack of Tom Brady in the opener

2. Buffalo’s C. J. Spiller returns a kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown.

3. Joe Philbin ordered offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to run the ball on third-and-9 against Green Bay and punt the ball for the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers to win the game.

4. On fourth-and-1, Ryan Tannehill used the read-option to run for 30 yards against Chicago .

5. Brent Grimes returns an interception against Jacksonville for a touchdown.

6. Brandon Albert was lost for the year when Detroit’s Andre Fleullen was blocked into his knee.

7. Denver’s C.J. Anderson runs 10, easy yards through the Dolphins defense in the fourth quarter to bring the Broncos back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter and start questions about this Dolphins defense.

8. The series of plays that should unsettle the Dolphins through the off-season came in the loss to Baltimore after a Charles Clay catch put the ball at the Raven’s 4-yard lline early in the fourth quarter.

9. Tom Brady ran for 17 yards to kick-start the Patriots into a 41-13 rout.

10. Ryan Tannehill threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Damian Williams against Minnesota to complete the kind of last-minutes drive this offense couldn’t in earlier games.

11. Eric Decker catches a 74-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to start a Jets’ comeback from 10 points down and underline the descent of the Dolphins defense.

I have absolutely no idea how you could choose that play for the Packers game and not Cortland Finnegan's awful, awful, awful play on that fake spike that should have actually backfired and lost the game for Green Bay if Finnegan can just execute a simple tackle or even simply keep the guy in-bounds after he cut inside to begin with.

#8 was the season killer. We really needed to score a TD against Baltimore there and take the lead. When we didn't the season fell apart

Where is the Wheeler play vs. the Packers? Where is the Rodgers fumble that the Packers jumped on that would have ended the game if Miami got it? Where is the terrible spot on Golden Tate's catch that gave Detroit a 1st down (would have been 4th down if spotted properly)?

Hartline's penalty for doing the golf-putt celebration. The beginning of the end.

I'd add the Peyton Manning 3rd and a mile that was completed right before the half in Denver. That play was huge and all though the Dolphins didn't fold on offense in the 3rd quarter, the wheels completely came off in the 4th for the defense.

And the man down field penalties against the Ravens. Some of those penalties in that game negated big chunk plays on offense.

That is a huge one! Taylor bit on the fake on 3rd and 22, which is inexcuseable in that situation.

It wasn't a play, but the timeout after the sack of Rogders allowed GB to catch their breath a bit. There were 8 seconds left on the play clock and GB wasn't even lined up yet. Considering they scored with 6 seconds left, that TO was huge. They probably don't attempt the fake spike if we don't give them those extra few seconds.

So, uh, it sounds like people were not happy with how the last 4 minutes of the Packers game were coached? :idk:

Hyde: 11 plays that defined the Dolphins 2014 season

Let's look at 10 plays that defined another evening-out, 8-8- season for the Dolphins:
1.Cameron Wake’s sack of Tom Brady in the opener that caused a fumble and flipped the day in the third quarter to lead a Dolphins win. This was the good news start to a season...

2. Buffalo’s C. J. Spiller returns a kickoff 102 yards for a touchdown. The Dolphins also had a punt blocked and Jarvis Landry muffed fielding a punt against Buffalo that day. You didn’t know what to expect from the Dolphins special teams from game to game – sometimes play to play.

3. Joe Philbin ordered offensive coordinator Bill Lazor to run the ball on third-and-9 against Green Bay and punt the ball for the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers to win the game. Philbin said he felt “queasy” about passing after Green Bay rushed Tannehill effectively on second down. This wasn’t the first time Philbin felt queasy. At Buffalo, the Dolphins had more than two minutes before half, three time-outs and the length of the field to go. Philbin elected to call five straight runs to finish the half. After the Green Bay game, Lazor said called out his head coach, saying, “I thought when we stand up in front of the offense, and we tell them we want to play to win, play aggressive, play loose, and I think it’s our job to coach that way, too .When coach makes certain decisions on how we are going to play the game, then I think the players appreciate giving them a chance to go win the game. We could have started taking a knee two drives earlier and run the clock earlier, but that’s not how you play.”

That is tops, season killer!!!

4. On fourth-and-1, Ryan Tannehill used the read-option to run for 30 yards against Chicago . This was a new wrinkle to the offense that took advantage of Tannehill's athleticism.

5. Brent Grimes returns an interception against Jacksonville for a touchdown. Grimes led the Dolphins with five interceptions and made the Pro Bowl.

6. Brandon Albert was lost for the yearwhen Detroit’s Andre Fleullen was blocked into his knee. He was carted off the field and, with him, went the Dolphins’ most irreplaceable talent this year.

7. Denver’s C.J. Anderson runs 10, easy yards through the Dolphins defense in the fourth quarter to bring the Broncos back from an 11-point deficit in the fourth quarter and start questions about this Dolphins defense. Denver ran for 201 yards with Anderson having 167 of them on 27 carries.

Tannehill's coming out party spoiled by bad defense ,ouch!

8. The series of plays that should unsettle the Dolphinsthrough the off-season came in the loss to Baltimore after a Charles Clay catch put the ball at the Raven’s 4-yard lline early in the fourth quarter. These epitomized the Dolphins struggles to get tough yards and problems in tight games. And this was a game that pushed the playoffs away from them. They trailed, 14-10, at this point and then ran this sequence:
* 1[SUP]st[/SUP] -and-4. Lamar Miller barely got the hand-off and was blasted by linebacker Daryl Smith, who was not blocked up the middle.
* 2nd-and-6. False start by guard Shelley Smith.
* 2nd-and-11. Tannehill misses a wide open Mike Wallace in the end zone.
* 3rd-and-11. Tannehill sacked by C.J. Mosely, who came untouched on a delayed blitz from the left side.
and the beat goes on, on ....
9. Tom Brady ran for 17 yards to kick-start the Patriots into a 41-13 rout. This was startling in that this was the longest run by Brady since November of 2007. The point being, if the Dolphins could find a way to lose a game, they would find it too many times.

10. Ryan Tannehill threw a 3-yard touchdown pass to Damian Williams against Minnesota to complete the kind of last-minutes drive this offense couldn’t in earlier games. This 11-play, 80-yard drive tied up the game at 35-35 with 1:11 to play and cemented a big day by Tannehill.
Haaa...the game that cost us a new coach. Thanks Shelby, hope you had a good xmas !

11. Eric Decker catches a 74-yard touchdown pass from Geno Smith to start a Jets’ comeback from 10 points down and underline the descent of the Dolphins defense. Decker caught 10 passes for 225 yards, many against Brent Grimes.

Putting Wheeler on coverage in the last play of the GB game.

Two illegal man downfield calls as the refs want the spotlight. Non stop roughing the passer not called on Balt D and holding not called on Forsetts run.

Not sure if you're referring to the safety that essentially won us that game subsequently Ross keeping Phailbin but if so it was Fede, not shelby that blocked the punt.

Even though the defense didn't play well in the second half of that game they came through when it counted. Kickoff team did an excellent job of pinning them on the kickoff. Then the d forced 3 and out with key sack by wake. Then special teams win it on the block punt. Prior to that offense drive to tie the game. That was perfect complimentary football to end the game. We needed every unit and they all came through
