12/28 Dolphin notes

So if Burke stays the scheme stays. I can see Burke lobbying for some players and trying to convince him of vast improvement.

December 28, 2017 2017 Regular season, Joe Schad.

Here is some of what Adam Gase said Thursday:

• Jermon Bushrod has done everything he’s asked since they’ve worked together.

• The throwback uniforms are a nice change of pace for the players. He wears the throwback hat all the time because it fits.

• It’s hard to focus on one player when Jakeem Grant is in the game.

• He’s not ready to go in depth on Isaac Asiata’s future.

• Some games it’s been really tough for the offensive line. There have been some games with zero sacks and some games with six. It’s just like anything else. A need to be more consistent.

• He wants to study why there wasn’t really a dropoff from Ja’Wuan James/Jermon Bushrod to Jesse Davis/Sam Young. They connected and did a good job of how to handle how to play well together.

• It’s not DeVante Parker’s fault a guy rolled up on his leg. He doesn’t look at it as 1-2-3.

Translation - current LB group can’t cover a TE. Yup.

This is such a cop out by Burke. Yes, I agree he has no one who can cover TEs. His LBs suck in coverage. That doesn’t take him off the hook. Figure it out man! In a weird way it’s your job to adapt. Give Kiko help with a safety or a CB, go to a zone, stuff the TE at the line, etc etc. I don’t know I’m not a defensive coordinator, but i do know good ones adapt and don’t whine about lack of talent, nor do they keep trying the same thing over and over again even though they know the result. Did Matt Patricia cry when his defense was devoid of talent in the front 7 or did he figure it out?

Dolphins DC Matt Burke realizes Dolphins need someone to defend skilled tight ends, hybrid types like Clay etc. (This, to me, is biggest need of offseason and needs to be a linebacker.)

Water is wet...
He's just realizing this now! Should have known this from the day he stepped on the practice field day 1 year 1 since he was the freakin linebackers coach!

I hope after all this time Burke isn't just now realizing this. Something the rest of us knew the first game.

There is no carry coverage lb in the building

That’s not an excuse that’s truth. But the league doesn’t have many carry coverage plus backers anyways

They mostly try to use safeties for it.

Most tbe rookie lbs that come in are major work in progress coverage players anyways

Scheme needs to offset. The patriots aren’t playing a carry coverage backer and yet it’s working for them
