•Davone Bess should rebound favorably from his least productive NFL season, filling a Wes Welker role as Miami's slot receiver. There's little wasted movement in Bess' routes. He has a way of dropping into open zones, which makes him extremely quarterback-friendly.
"Davone Bess is one of those receivers who will juke you pretty good," linebacker Koa Misi said.
•Sean Smith is the only cornerback receiver Chad Johnson hasn't had his way with. Smith has slimmed down, dropping to 218 pounds. He's playing with a bit more physicality than in past years. Smith isn't just entering his fourth season as a starter. He's entering a contract year.
•If David Garrard plays for the Dolphins like he did in his last NFL season as a starter — completing 64.5 percent of his passes for 2,734 yards with 23 touchdowns through the air, 15 interceptions, five rushing touchdowns and a 90.8 overall QB rating — the Dolphins could be in the playoff hunt.
