1. GM Jeff Ireland said Philbin has “100 percent … total authority” to hire his coaching staff. All Dolphins coaches will interview with Philbin and will be considered, but expect Philbin to look into bringing some of his friends from Green Bay down to Miami. Among those who could be considered as coordinators – Packers linebackers/assistant head coach Winston Moss, safeties coach Darren Perry, defensive line coach Mike Trgovac and quarterbacks coach Tom Clements.
Also expect Mike Sherman to get a serious look as offensive coordinator if he doesn’t get the Bucs’ head coaching job. Sherman and Philbin coached together at Tulane in 1984, Sherman hired Philbin as an assistant offensive line coach with Green Bay in 2003 and is one of Philbin’s closest friends.
2. Philbin will hire an offensive coordinator, and plans to let the OC call the plays, although that hasn’t been completely determined yet. Philbin didn’t call plays in Green Bay in his five years as OC. Philbin also has the blessing to decide on the offensive and defensive scheme, though expect the Dolphins to stick with a 3-4 defense since most of their personnel fits that D. Philbin reportedly has a four-year deal.
3. There really is only one priority this offseason: Finding a franchise quarterback. Guys such as Peyton Manning, Matt Flynn and Robert Griffin III will all be in play for the Dolphins. If Sherman is hired, perhaps Texas A&M quarterback Ryan Tannehill will be considered after playing for Sherman in college. The Dolphins aren’t allowed to talk about Manning and Flynn until they become free agents – otherwise that’s tampering – but they’re preparing to make a move. Ireland has Stephen Ross’ blessing to get it done, no matter the cost.
4. Philbin says he won’t necessarily bring the Packers’ offense to Miami. Philbin said he’s “just getting my feet wet” in terms of evaluating the roster. “I think it’s a mistake to just take the Green Bay Packer playbook and plop it on the table here in South Florida,” he said. “One of your responsibilities of coaching is to put your players in the best position to succeed.”
“I don’t think football is an overly complicated game,” he added. “As offensive coordinator in Green Bay I used to stand up in front of the offense and ask them if they could count to four. Because if you can count to four, you can play in the Packer offense.”
5. Philbin’s approach to coaching: “We’re going to be demanding, not demeaning. So we’re going to coach these guys extremely hard and be very detail oriented. Going to be thorough, but not going to leave any stone unturned to help these guys develop and get better. And at the same time we want to enjoy the relationship, enjoy the ride while we’re doing it.”

Joe Philbin really impresses me...I am so glad we ended up with him instead of pompous Jeff Fisher, Could you imagine trying to comprehend having Brian Schottenheimer as the Offensive Coordinator? Serious kudos to Mr. Ross, Jeff Ireland on this hire.

What's up guys been a follower for awhile just don't post, my favorite quote here is "were goingnto be demanding, not demeaning."

I've always hated the way bp, Ireland, and sparano treated players. You always got the feeling this staff taught by ripping players down instead of teaching them.

def a fan. he instantly got me on his side by speaking the way he does. im not surprised he ws hired, and im not sure the reports of ireland wanting someone else are true.

Good things come to them who wait...............

I was very impressed reading his transcript of his press conference. He seems like he is prepared for the job and he also seems like a human being. I believe this is the turning point back to respectability and greatness, plus he isn't an exCowboy.

#4 and #5 say it all.

its what this team has been missing [outside of good drafting] for years now. we just dont develope talent, when we do find it, it does end up being productive....................... on other teams rosters.

after reading through this stuff, its painfully [and annoyingly] obvious how bad the media and insider types poisoned the waters of all things miami dolphins. and lets face it, if your not in the meetings with ross and company, you dont KNOW whats really going on.

and we fans are a victim of it all because we are desperate for change, acostomed to failures and bad fortune and its made us sceptical and bitter and many times confused. and the media fed off that.

the other obvious thing is ross wasnt fooling. he swore the coach and changes he would make would be the right ones and as far as i am concerned, expecially after learning more about coach phil and his philosophies on football, we absolutely made the best choice of the coaches available to us. everything MOST of the fans have been mad about are things philbin has no part of. he is in to TEACHING and not yelling. fitting the offense with the personel and easing his sytsem in, not forcing time wasting, archaic ideology.

i have wanted the WEST COAST OFFENSE here for many years as its still the most productive offense in the nfl. as i wrote in a post yesterday, i brought up what bill walsh said about the system he designed [to build on montanas talents] that while it was created for montanas skills, the system was so efficient it was easy for qb's to have success in it. you only needed a small [yet specific] set of skills. you didnt HAVE to have the biggest, strongest arm.

so i was estatic when we hired philbin. but as much as i have wanted this system here [with a coach who knows how to run it] i knew we were not going to imediately look like the packers and score 45 points a game and i am afraid some of the fans have this in their minds. so i loved the part where philbin said it isnt wise to walk in and slap down the packer offense and expect it to take off. he mentioned [music to my ears] that he hadnt had time to sit and evaluate the personel and he needed to do that to decide how much of his offense to start with and then taylor it to that personel. what a concept huh??

this is SOOOOO refreshing!! so different than past coaches [with all teams] that come into the presser and sit ddown and commence to tell us how they will be exciting, play a pressure defense, be smart and the famous "we'll have attention to detail", basically reciting verbatim what they told the owners and gm in the interviews. blaaaaaa....blaaaaaa...blaaaaaa.... .

teaching. evaluating, enjoying the ride....... DANG!!!

why does this feel so good? so "right"? and i know a lot of the fans are feeling the same thing, like it truelly is different this time, he speaks what he means, what he believes, emphasis on TEACHING and not preaching, developing the players and usuing there talents. how long have we all been waiting for this?

its like that feeling you you have when you realize you have found the perfect girl. shes beautiful. you can bounce a quarter off her tush. loves your juevinile humour, nothings off limits in bed, she loves porn and football, brews her own beer and bbq's the tastiest ribs in the state!

what a feeling!! its almost perfect.

did joe say he likes porn?

I wish the guy luck. He seems prepared for the job in the opening presser. NOW, get a quality staff hired AND give the guy an option at QB.

I just got to watched the video, can he run for president also? Men like this are far and few between in this wonderful era of screw your neighbor.

A lot of reports where not true and that would not surprise me to be one. Ross liked one guy, Ireland liked one guy and Peterson liked someone who had not even been interviewed.....

But lets make a thread on Finheaven and blast the incompetent FO......:hclap:

I'm impressed, well spoken, intelligent with a definite vision, looks like we have a winner. I look back at Sporanos press conference and remember how much in over his head he seemed, not fluent in his speaking and sorta grasping for answers. I thought to myself who the hell is this guy, we're in trouble. In hindsight my initial instincts turned out to be correct. With Philbin I did not get that sense, I feel really good about him and hope he can turn things around for us quickly. Good job Mr. Ross
