So as I'm laying awake at 3 in the morning due to slight insomnia, I'm thinking to myself, Why don't the 1972 have their own feature film?

I know most sports movies are pretty bad, but Don't you think they could make a pretty decent film out of the 72 team? If they did, What actor would you want to play Shula? Csonka? Griese? Morris? etc

I bring this up because I'm looking up sports movies they have made in recent years. The 1980s US hockey team has a movie 'Miracle,' the tragic story of Marshall now has a story in "We are Marshall," and even Vince Papile has his own movie "Invincible." The funny thing is, aside from Marshall, the other two were more recent than the 72 teams triumphs, and yet theres no movie.

I think a movie about the 72 team would do well now, especially after the 2007 Patriots just proved how incredible the 72 season was.

So I ask you finheaven:

1. Why do you think there hasn't been a film?

2. Do you think a films a good idea?

3. Who would you like to cast as certain players/coaches?

Javier Bardem

Cmon, same hair styles :up::lol:

it is not an obvious choice for a movie because there is not obstacle or conflict (at least not from the outside...maybe there was internally).

All the movies you just listed are about long shots (Invincable, Miracle) or disaster (We Are Marshall). Movies revolve around this. Sport movies are almost always made about the underdog....the '72 Dolphins aren't that.

1. Why do you think there hasn't been a film?

Too small a target audience. One of the biggest reasons sports movies for professional teams aren't made, or don't do very well is sports fans of pro teams tend to be very loyal. Who besides Dolphins fans would be excited to see this movie? Not many. Can you imagine Bills or Jets fans going to see it? Of course not. You just lost one of the biggest states population wise as your target audience.

Perfect example of a failure - Fever Pitch. Different sport but same idea. I would be willing to bet no Yankees fan saw this movie. And there are an awful lot of Yankees fans out there. And not only did the movie bomb, but it almost instantly transformed Jimmy Falon from respected up and coming comedian (I never considered him such) to grade A D-bag over night.

2. Do you think a films a good idea?

No. For reasons above and A successful movie needs drama, obstacles to overcome, adversity, climactic finish, etc. Besides the fact that everyone knows the ending, the season overall was too easy for the dominant Dolphins. Where would the major plot points be? The audience would be sick of it after win #10.

3. Who would you like to cast as certain players/coaches1. Why do you think there hasn't been a film?

I think Wesley Snipes could probably pull off Mercury Morris.

yeah, sports movies are usually about underdogs overcoming some sort of impossible obstacle. but if there was a movie, i would definitely watch it.

I'll admit a story about an unbeaten team is "going against the trend" but given this is hollywood we're talking about, since when is that a bad thing?

Given the success of "Americas Game" and NFL films in general, theres obviously a place for stories about winners. I mean Americas Game is the same thing. We all know who won the super bowl, we all know why it was such a big deal and yet its still very popular.

well the drama for it would be bob griese breaking his leg and Shula inserting a 38 year old journyman qb to help the 72 phins to a perfect record up to the playoffs. But besides that obsticale I really don't see any drama. I mean they could put in scenes of mercury Morris doing mountains of cocaine then playing all skeeted but other than thats thats about it

I think it could happen as the legend continues to grow.

Those of us that lived thru it didn't need the Patriots 2007 season to appreciate the accomplishment. It was never done before or since.

It could be good if it was done as a drama/comedy, similar to "North Dallas Forty", which I think is the best football movie ever.

There were certainly some characters on that team, and if the right actors were in it and it was written well, it could be a success.

Heres one scene for you, Csonka and Fernandez putting the alligator in Shula's shower.

paulie for shula. norton for griese. rosie o donnell for csonka. and mercury morris as himself.

:lol:Oh my god, true or not thats genius.

As far as Drama is concerned, I guess nobody rememebrs Miami got there ***** handed to them the year before int he super bowl by Dallas. Super Bowl 6 ended 24-3 Dallas.

You could start the movie right at the end of super bowl 6, show the dolphins beaten down and embarrassed in the super bowl, then they get together to rally 17 straight wins and go down in history.

Coach Don Shula: Nick Nolte
Larry Csonka: Robert DeNiro...but with a bushy moustache
Paul Warfield: Wesley Snipes, unless Snipes is in jail for his IRS stuff.
Bob Griese: Warren Beatty...remember Heaven Can Wait where he was a QB?
Mercury Morris, as Himself

It's anticlimatic! A GOOD team loses in the superbowl, and wins it the next year.

The Giants season would make a better movie. A wild card team wins 3 road games in the playoffs and beats the undefeated Patriots who were also the most prolific offense of all time.

The 72 season was special but we really need to stop talking about it. This franchise couldn't be further away from glory than it currently is. The PAST means nothing. The future is now.
