Just finished watching the first 2 CFL games of the season, and wow this league is bad. My hometown team, the Hamilton Tiger-cats embarassed themselves as well as the game of football, losing to Toronto 30-17. I am 10x more a dolphin fan then a Hamilton fan, so I am way more focused on Miami. Since the Wake signing caught me by surprise, I decided this year I'd try to get into the CFL a little more. Well what a waste of a wednsday this was tonight. I could go on forever on how bad the league is, but the real point is that Cam Wake needs to be regarded as just another player, and not some diamond in the rough. He could have had 50 sacks last year in this league and it wouldn't make a difference. I would go into more detail, but I know the majority of posters will just say Wake is God because they want him to be for whatever reason. One thing I know now for sure... if he can't play special teams he won't make this team.

Never watched a CFL game myself, but I guess this shouldn't surprise me.

In your opinion, how would you compare CFL and college?

Hey oasis,

To be honest I don't watch college football so I don't know. The CFL is such a different game from American football it is difficult to figure out what criteria to compare. I pity the players that have to come up here and learn such a ****ed up version of the game.

Well forgive me if I decide to take the "wait and see" approach before calling Wake a bust. I remember Sam Mills coming out of the USFL and everyone saying he wasn't big enough, fast enough and hadn't played good enough competition. Wake reminds me a bit of Mills (RIP).

I'm not saying Wake will be nearly that good, but the main quality I look for in pass rushers is "WANT TO". And he has it. I will agree the CFL is a totally different game, but Wake will love not having to line up an extra yard off the ball. It will make him look twice as fast as he was up there. I don't expect anything out of him until about the last preseason game and then he will start to get his timing down and we will get to see what he has.

Maybe he turns out to be a bust. But I for one expect to see between 4-7 sacks out of him this year. And that coming off the bench to help JT and JP rush the passer will keep them fresh later in the year. JMO.

If Wake doesn't pan out this year in the draft next year we gotta go linebackers and get at least 2 or 3. One inside Linebacker and at least 1 or 2 outside linebackers becase we need to start seeing Porter's future replacement. Let's see if Roth holds on to that LOLB and plays even better than last year so that we don't have to worry about that position.

If Wake does what he needs to do he would be the perfect replacement for Porter it would be awesome but we gotta give him time because going from DE to OLinebacker is not an easy process. Wake says he rather be working out than sitting in a sofa watching TV so ima take up on his word. I hope he is working out now as hard as ever, learning about coverage as much as possible, sharpening his skills and abilities.
He still has almost 2 months to get it right when there is a will there's a way and I got hope for this kid.

I quess Warren Moon sucked too :lol2: Who knows how he will be in the NFL, but to say he will suck is laughable.Theres been some good players to come from the CFL.

I'm 41 years old and have been watching football roughly about 30 some years of that. I can only remember a handfull of players to make any impact on the NFL at all from the CFL. Sure, ya got Moon.....Who's the next QB down on the list? Vince Feregamo? Flutie?

Pop quiz...Who was the last OLB from the CFL to come to the NFL and make a meaningful impact?

i guess there's a first for everything. i'm calling Wake neither godsend nor bust. he's basically in the same boat as every rookie coming into the league. until he proves his worth one way or another, we can only hope.

To compare the CFL to the NFL, would be like AAA or AA baseball to MLB, the guys that play in the CFL are a step down talent wise from the NFL. As to compare to college ball..... some of the Division one elite teams like USC, texas, gators, etc could play them very close.
As for Wake, we'll see what he does once training camp starts, I think he'll make the team and make a few good plays this year, but he could be a year or so away from being anything special.

Football is football. Wake dominated this league. Wakes physical numbers are super (height weight 40 time etc). And lastly I would trust Bill Parcels opinion of a potential olb in the nfl than someone that has admitted that he has hardly watched any cfl games. I would take Wake over Vernon Gholston any day of the week and i am a ohio state fan. lets wait till at least training camp starts.

There have been lots of guys who dominated the CFL. They don't play in the NFL for a reason. Football is most certainly not football. CFL, AFL, UFL...They all have different brands of the game and talent levels.

I am not saying that he's going to be a boom or bust...I just think it's silly to imagine him as the god many think he is destined to be.

Oh I agree. I hope he does well. From the time we signed him, I was saying I wold consider the signing a "win" if he is a situational pass rusher and tallies between 8-10 sacks.

What number am I thinking of? I love all the self proclaimed Nostradamus's on this board.. Hopefully he doesnt suck, but to say he is a FA bust 2 months before the season even starts? eh... so much for due diligence

Not sure how you define impact, but Rashad Jeanty is a starter for the Bengals at OLB, and he came from the CFL. Shoot, Saban tried to bring him to Miami in '05. Is that right?

Jeanty didnt do too bad it looks like.. almost 100 tackles and 2 FF.. But playing on the Bengals D is nothing to brag about.
