This all has to stop! I know it's a slow time of the season, but it's time to set the facts straight about roookie 1st round Wide Receivers. I did the number crunching and got all the stats from every 1st round pick WR since 2000 and this is what i came up with.

Name -----------------Rec--Yards---TD's
Santonio Holmes --49--- 824 ----2
Braylon Edwards --32 ---512 ---3
Troy Williamson ---24--- 372--- 2
Mike Williams ------29 ---350 ---1
Matt Jones ----------36--- 432--- 5
Mark Clayton -------44 ---471--- 2
Roddy White --------29--- 446--- 3
Larry Fitzgerald -----58--- 780--- 8
Roy Williams --------54--- 817--- 8
Reggie Williams ----27--- 268--- 1
Lee Evans ------------48--- 843--- 9
Michael Clayton ----80--- 1193---7
Michael Jenkins-----7-----119----0
Rashaun Woods ----7--- 160--- 1
Charles Rogers -----22--- 243--- 3
Andre Johnson ------66--- 976--- 4
Bryant Johnson -----35--- 438--- 1
Donte' Stallworth ---42--- 594--- 8
Ashley Lelie ----------35--- 525--- 2
Javon Walker --------23--- 319--- 1
David Terrell ----------34--- 415--- 4
Koren Robinson ----39--- 536--- 1
Rod Gardner --------46--- 741--- 4
Santana Moss -------2--- 40--- 0
Freddie Mitchell ---21--- 283--- 1
Reggie Wayne -----27--- 345--- 0
Peter Warrick ------51--- 592--- 4
Plaxico Burress ---22--- 273--- 0
Travis Taylor --------28--- 276--- 3
Sylvester Morris ---48--- 678 ---3
R. Jay Soward -----14--- 154--- 1

Notice something? Just a single 1000 yard season, no one over 9 TD's, just one had more than 66 receptions. The fact of the matter is that 99% off all receivers will take time to adjust to the NFL.
If you do the averages you will see that an average rookie WR selected in the first round will produce something like this:

35 Receptions 484 Yards 3 TD's

The point that I am trying to make is that everyone on here should be ecstatic that we have a WR who can come in RIGHT now and make an impact. So what if he's returning kicks! History shows that the only way to get these guys productive is to just sit and wait for the adjustment to come.

Don't get your false hopes up about 1000 yard season's, or leading the NFL in TD's. It's not going to happen, not now at least. BUT, maybe he could lead the AFC in returns, and catch a TD or two for us, or maybe even get a few hundred receiving...now that is sounding more realistic.

Good work on the research....

And you're using 1st Round WRs stats......not ALL rookie WRs.....which would bring the averages even lower...

FYI, you might consider editing the format of the stats. It's hard to read.

It looked better when i wrote it...fixing now...

Wow.......

Santana Moss 2 rec, 40 yds, 0 TDs

How many fin fans would be screaming for RandyCam's heads if Ted Ginn Jr put up those stats in 2007???

Be patient people.....

Great Post! This really keeps things in perspective. People think one guy will change the world. Cam & Randy have said this will take some time. We all want a quick fix. Reality is whoever is the QB this year will be there to hopefully make us competitive today. But our future success and making it back on top of the AFC East will be with Beck and that is a couple years away. We need to stock pile good solid young guys that can grow together so in a couple of years they are ready to roll. That is realistic but we always want to hope for the quick fix SB formula. Ginn will learn slowly and in a couple years hopefully teamed with Beck they will do some damage - for now they should bring him around slowly. Start as a return guy and maybe #4 WR and slowly give him more playing time as he earns it.

People should not get it confused...Ginn JR is Dangerous, and when cameron puts him on the field we will have the "reggie bush" effect in full force. Camron is going to design some plays and give them little by little to Ginn. Then ginn can work on his routes and polish them up, while not having to digest the entire playbook and overloading him....It's quite possible that chambers explodes this year now that he is not the only speed threat anymore...And ronnie will benefit because safetys will not be able to come as close to the line like they did last year....

I like this stat:
Donte' Stallworth ---42--- 594--- 8
He was drafted by Randy Mueller.
Something to hope for.

Good research...I would say however that roughly 750 and above yards and about 6 or more touchdowns is very productive for a rookie WR - I really wouldnt expect anything more but wouldnt call him a bust (like alot on this board tend to do to players who have had practically no playing time) if he produces anything less...

I am not expecting 1000 yards and 10 touchdowns from him. Heck, Im not even expecting 600 yards and 6 touchdowns from him. What i am expecting though is to be starting just about every drive from no less than our 40 yard line. Now I think that is more realistic than expecting a pro-bowl recieving year from him. Wouldnt you agree?

Good post, isn't Santonio Holmes from Ohio State?,even if Tedd Ginn doesn't get alot of rec yards,at least he should make a differance in pr/kr and improve field postion for our off.I'd be happy with an improvement like that for a 1yr player, and comes in every now and then and help move the chains,or a couple of TD's.

Great post. I'm becoming more and more optimistic in regards to what our offense is actually capable of. If we can maintain our defense, and become only 30% better on offense, we can make the playoffs.

Can we make this a sticky thread and make it required reading for every poster before posting a Ted Ginn is a bust thread next season.

Plenty of other wideouts have had big first years before 2000 though...Terry Glenn, Marvin Harrison, Keyshawn Johnson, Eddie Kennison from the vaunted '96 draft all were over 800 yds receiving. Not to mention John Jefferson (1,001) and James Lofton (over 800) in `78 were first year WRs who also delivered. Lets hope Ginn falls into one of these groups.

Great!! Means Ginn can be the 1st Rookie WR since 2000 to get past the magic 1000yds!!! hehe
If not he can have a decent 1st season at WR and be a demon on Kick returns. Then he get better over next few seasons. Thats more like reality to me.

You can always hope, but the game has changed since 96. (See: Walsh, Tom: Raiders/Bed and breakfast)
