Here's the records for the Dolphins head coaches in their first season with the team.

George Wilson, 3-11 expansion team
Don Shula, 10-4 with a good crop of players from the George Wilson days
Jimmy Johnson, 8-8 with a 1,000 yard rusher for the first time in a very long time and starting ( I think) 7-8 rookies at one time
Dave Wannstedt, 11-5 AFC East Champions, without Dan Marino
Nick Saban, 9-7 with a new crop of players, returning only 4 D starters from 2004 and a new QB.

Which of these 5 coaches did the best in their 1st season? Most of us can't remember George Wilson or even Don Shula's first year, but as a 1st year head coach, which do you think did the best?

Shula without a doubt.......the Dolphins were 3-10-1 the year before he got there and had never had a winning record.

I'd put them in this order:

Shula
Saban
Wannstedt
Johnson
Wilson

I am on the fence about putting Wanny over JJ, but Wanny win the division and a playoff game....even if JJ had put together the personell....Wanny didn't F' it up.

Looking at what they did in their first year and not after, Shula, Johnson, Wannstedt, and Saban did really well in their first year, in their own way.
