2:20 p.m. update: A day after the Dolphins placed Dannell Ellerbe on season-ending injured reserve, they began preparations for the Buffalo game without middle linebacker Koa Misi. Misi has an ankle sprain and is still wearing a boot.

The Dolphins hope he can return in a week or two, but that's completely dependent on how quickly he heals and it's certainly possible it could take longer. He missed two games when he had an ankle sprain two years ago.

Philip Wheeler, who missed Sunday's game with a thumb injury, participated in the early portion of practice today (per our Adam Beasley) but continues to wear the cast. His status for Sunday is certainly in question.

Jordan Tripp (bruised sternum), Terrence Fede (knee), Mike Pouncey (hip) and Billy Turner (bone bruise on foot) also remained sidelined during the early portion of practice, according to Adam.

Also, Chris McCain was not at the early portion of practice, according to Adam. And Mike Wallace --- who said he has had a hamstring issue --- was catching passes on the side.
We are a mash unit. Need some guys to get healthy quick.

Its early after a game. Not worried just yet.

so now billy turner has a bone bruise...i thought it was turf toe...would much rather it be a bone bruise provided it's not being misdiagnosed...

get ready for trusnick at mike jenkins at weak and who knows at strong this week...

Who ever it is, shut down the run.

Force the game into EJ's hands.

New Dolphins ILBer Kelvin Sheppard has decent size. He's listed as 6-2, 252. A little heavier than Philip Wheeler.

There is no Koa Misi during the portion of practice the media is watching. He's sidelined with the ankle injury he suffered last week.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 54m
Mike Pouncey continues to do his rehab assignment. He's not practicing another week.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 52m
Jordan Tripp continues to sit out practice while he's sidelined with a chest injury.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 51m
Koa Misi has his left ankle in a cast, but he's walking without crutches.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 48m
Dolphins rookie linebacker Chris McCain, who was nursing a hip injury last week, is not at the portion of practice available to the media.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 41m
My bad, defensive end Gerald Rivers is No. 48. He was listed as 47.

Philip Wheeler is practicing today. He practiced last week on a limited basis before being ruled out on Friday. Cast is still there.

Kelvin Sheppard is starting with linebacker coach Mark Duffner getting a download of Miami's defense.

Omar Kelly @OmarKelly · 45s
Jason Trusnik continued to work as #Dolphins' starting inside linebacker
Am I counting wrong or is that only 9 PS players?

interesting that philbin said that 5-2 look in the opener was a package they had worked on and not out of necessity...i would think that would be a sirens going off to to run right at us but i bet a safety was awfully close to the los in it...

Maybe that's why he said package. In the event that it's needed again, teams won't think were screwed

Im guessing that package is designed to get Jordan on the field along with Wake and OV. McCain was getting used in that package Sunday quite a bit.

It is one way to get our best players on the field.

hmm, wonder where McCain is at.

That's a good question.

Essentially the same thing. Well, at least in the fact that constant "jamming" of the toe that causes turf toe will also cause bruising to the toe area if the ligament damage is done to the PIP joint and not the MTP joint (in which bruising will appear at the top of the foot.)

i think it's more about hiding your lbs in coverage...that would be my first thought at least...going with an extra db...i meant 5-2 as in 5 dbs and 2 lbs...

The Patriots are weak on the outside so going man/free and bringing five was a good look against them regardless of our injuries. I didn't think we would jump into a single gapping 3-4 look with five pass rushers for huge portions on the game but it doesn't particularly surprise me. The Patriots' best skill position guys are inside so having a safety in the box was always going to be key. If Wheeler had been healthy they probably would have preferred to blitz him instead of having our three man down lineman in the game but it would have been a similar thing.

The situation is a bit different against Buffalo. They actually have good skill position guys on the outside they just don't have the quarterback to exploit that so they play a lot of small ball. As a result I think we'll end up playing similarly as we did against the Pats except the fifth man -- Mitchell and Vernon most often, imo -- will be a spy.
