Tackle: Jake Long, Dolphins. Long was a full-year starter for the Dolphins, playing left tackle but sometimes moving to the right side in Wildcat formations. He played through a sprained ankle at the end of the season and didn't commit a penalty until December. He was the cornerstone player the Dolphins hoped for when they made him the highest paid offensive lineman in the NFL. The only downside: As good as Long was, Clady may have been just a bit better. Brandon Albert and Jeff Otah get honorable mention.
Kicker: Dan Carpenter, Dolphins. An 84 percent success rate on field goals, no short misses, a perfect extra point record, and respectable kickoff stats (including seven touchbacks). What more do you want from a rookie kicker?

Jake Long could kick Clady's ***.

I agree. Clady would not have looked that good if we had taken him. His stats were inflated because of Denver's zone block system.

Honestly, even if Clady turns out to be a perennial All-Pro, I don't think we have to worry too much since Long should be a perennial All-Pro too.

What about our two rookie DL's? Langford and Merling play DE in a 3-4 defense where stats are hard to get because your job is to pile up the line so the inside and outside backers can move create havoc. Both of them did a great job of that. At least one of them should have been in there, especially with who they put in there, nobody I've heard of and I happen to follow the game.

The problem is that since they rotated they didn't have the numbers that some of those other players had. I certainly wouldn't trade either one of them. They are going to both be very good.

Because formations generally consist of 2 WRs, "honorable mentions" should also be included and Bess, who's the most prolific rookie UFA WR after Chrebet, should surely be in the mix.

first game he got a false start...

I remember the guy calling the game sayin he went like 3 seasons in college without a false start and he gets one in his first nfl game...

Could've sworn there was a hold in there somewhere. Either way, guess we can all be pretty happy when we have to think hard about pinpointing the guy's penalties as a rookie.

Yessir, I remember the hold. It was agaisnt the Rams.

yea i coulda swore he had a few penalties before december... specifically i remember the false start. but i remember thinkin a few times during the season that the trivial penalties on long were getting old. there was a tripping in there somewhere too... but that might not of been till december.
