at 3rd and 2 even if we dont get it we go for it on 4th down in that situation. Why not throw it to the endzone or throw it away? You'd still have 4th down. A 4yd pass in the middle of all that traffic? And yes better yet run Ricky and Ronnie 2 times I bet they get two yards. So we have bad playcalling, bad quarterbacking and a head coach who has no control of the call with the game on the line?

i would of ran it twice. i dont know why they think we could through in that situation. obviously they couldnt stop us up the middle. bad play call. it burns really bad

it wasnt a bad call
after several successful runs, a playaction pass is very successful
unfortunately it was a god awful throw

run the damn ball was what I was yelling,

I don't care if we lose a yard there we had to downs to get it and we were very rarely stopped for a negative gain all day when we ran

a god awful choice he was never ever open.

yes.
a god awful choice and throw.
if chambers isn't open, throw it to someone else
if no one's open, throw it the **** away.

but a playaction call at that moment was not a poor choice for a play

I agree.
You've got people complaining the exact opposite of what they have been complaining about for the past 4 years.

For years it's "we need to open up the offense more" and now that they are trying to it's "were being too aggressive"

It was a good call but horrible execution.
We may see the same thing that happened to Norv Turner here with Linehan. You've got a guy at QB once again that just can't run the offense with any efficiency at this point.
Linehan, like Norv is getting lambasted because he isn't dealing with a full deck IMO.

If we start running constantly then guess what, we'll have teams selling out against the run once again and we won't get anywhere that way either.

These coaches just got here.
1st year of a new system with a stopgap player at QB.
I'm willing to give the coaches the benefit of the doubt for at least this 1st year and until they can get better players onto this team.

I give Saban 3 years to get us into a wildcard spot before I begin doubting his abilities.
I don't necessarily think the play calling was poor throughout the game, I just don't think Frerotte can execute them properly.

Right now Linehan has to figure out a gameplan that Frerotte is capable of executing efficiently.
Notice how we aren't throwing bombs anymore?
It's all runs and 3-15 yard pops now.

It's a new system with new coaches and players that are not familiar with anything being show to them.
It's all trial and error at this point.
2007 we need to be a wildcard team though.

there's no excuse for not giving the 20 million dollar man the ball .....

period.... me being the head coach ill go with my investment and run my #1

pick... screw the off. cords. call saban should have acted like the head coach

and gone for the sure deal .... saban gotta grow some ba**s. IMO..

no hard feelings nick in critical situations take control...

Many times in the game we shoulda run instead of relying on Gus' inconsistent arm

I have to say this and sorry if its harsh, but how the hell do you know what Saban was telling Linehan? It is so easy to criticize and jump on someone's butt, but you have no idea what is going on behind the scenes. This play call was bad, but looking at the replay, it was a throw that NEVER SHOULD HAVE BEEN MADE- BY A VETERAN GUY ESPECIALLY. That is why Gus is here but this was truly an AJ Feeleyesque moment. The call was fine, considering we were in 4 down territory anyway. I can pretty much guarantee that before the play, Linehan told Gus, "If there is nothing there, throw it away. We have another down.".. because tht is what any OC would tell his QB in that situation. Gus made an awful decision. Its easy to criticize, but we all know that if that were a TD and we go on to win the game, there are threads starting the "Scott Linehan for MVP!" bandwagon because we are finally not playing conservative Wanny Ball. Think back to the Denver game. After they score we get a big play to Marty, and the headlines in Miami are all about this new and aggressive offensive. But answer me this. Suppose Gus throws a pick there. What happens? "Scott Linehan &*@*@)!*!!! We are up big and you're THROWING!?!? FIRE LINEHAN!" It is all about the execution.

Gus

He is got to get the AXE if we want to win a few games. If we can only run the ball it will get even worse. Give Sage a chance.

I disagree Trek and here is why. As an OC, Linehan has to know what plays are high percentage plays that work. Why go against that? It makes no sense to go pass on 3rd and short yardage when your RBs are making 5+ a pop! It was automatic.
Instead of going with the surefire thing...ie running the football in that situation, Linehan decides to gamble at one of the worst possible moment! That is just bad playcalling period.
In the past 3 weeks, Gus has had problems converting 3rd down situations. Why put the ball in his hands again THIS time expecting anything different from the past 3-4 weeks?

As an offensive coordinator, you should play to your strengths! Linehan failed to do that and cost the game.

Agreed! Horrible play calling.

Even if we would have gotten the TD to tie it, there would have been WAY too much time left on the clock to allow the Falcons to go down the field and get a FG. Running the ball on 3rd would have allowed the clock to keep moving if we didn't punch it through and would have taken more time off that clock for 4th down, effectively leaving Vick & Co. no time on the clock to do anything other than go to OT.

I also can't help but think that if they wouldn't have moved back out of Mare's FG range on that earlier play, that we'd have only been down by 4, not 7, and we'd have been going for the win, not the tie.

Makes me sick... :fire:
