Yes, Belicheat revisits winning strategies...
Last years rematch was a payback game for the wildcat unveiling (we got dominated) that attacked our lack of depth at DB and our strategy of defensive line rotation. We got beat soundly by their 3 and 4 wideout sets and no huddle playcalling, they constantly put our LB'ers in terrible matchup situations with short passes (drags, quick curls, quick outs) beyond the line of scrimmage. This 3-5 step drop strategy with lots of pre snap motion garnered them good time of possession and kept us from blitzing. Point is, Belicheat found a weakness and exploited all aspects of it while limiting our ability to adjust (prick). I have little doubt that he will revisit this "start to finish" "2 minute offense" gameplan and that its success or failure early on will determine this games path and outcome.

Questions.....
1) Do we now have the tools to stop their passing game
2) Does Will Allens absence cost us
3) Will Jason Taylors return make a difference
4) Will we see 3 safeties on the field if they go no huddle

Here's what you do; put Jason Taylor in front of Welker and Porter in front of Moss. Have them knock them down right on the line and then let the DB's pick them up after they get up; if they do. Let New England run it

I expect the Pats would adjust immediately and put both in motion.

I think the fins will be nickle & diming all day. I would. they have to trust the dl to contain the run game.

That's the 100th time I've read where you think that by just putting a WR in motion it will not allow them to be bumped at the line. Do you think no one will notice them after they go in motion? Do you think they won't still have someone line up on them?

Of course Belicheck will adjust, but hit them hard enough the first time or two to seriously slow them down

I was replying to the idea that Porter or taylor will be the ones applying the pressure.

Sure they'll have a db on each of them, at least near them. Putting them in motion gives them more space to defeat any attempt to bump them, especially Welker. It might work in the red zone when the db's don't have to worry about getting beat deep. but at the 40 or 50?

I would like to see the fins be aggressive and try to do it. One mistake and Moss is gone. Welker will make most guys miss. He's just too shifty quick.

quick note a WR may not line up at the LOS are snap. so you will have taylor or porter 4-5 yds after from Moss or wes. In this wes is going to be tough and even moss when they take off as you are asking your big OLB to move laterally to intercept a fast receiver after 5 yds also if the WR jukes you want your Olb to recover.
also by lightening the box all wes and moss do is line up on the same side and run towards the other side . Now you got CB trying to block OL coming clear with no OLB .

CB have trouble hanging with WR and you see big plays all weekend but asking a OLB to do this is crazy.

Now this I like....physical presence will create opportunities...we need to hit them hard even if it ain't their turn...we get a 5 yard window and I hope we use it all! If the refs are gonna flag you make sure you get your moneys worth playas.

Sounds nice in theory, but in practice it would fail.

I believe having Davis, Smith, and Clemons makes this matchup a whooooole lot different than last year.

Last season, the only talent we really had was in our d-line, Porter, and Allen. The rest probably would have been backups for other teams.

And that is why we were killed by the spread offense last year.

I think we should go with a lot of 4 DL with Wake getting some PT and JT covering alot of the TE. The TE is what gets overlooked here alot.

If we get to Welker so he gets the rock but not alot of YAC, that is a good sign.

Moss runs certain routes down the sideline. I think we drafted Smith just for this. Jason Allen did a pretty decent job last year covering Moss but Moss has great hands. So whats needed is a stout DL that covers there lanes because Brady just gets rid of it too quick. On 3rd and long is when you get the best chance for serious sack. But the prob is that they pass on 1st down and get 8 yards+ and then they have free plays to work with.

The key here is to cover cover cover moreso than blitz blitz blitz. Our DL like Soliai and Starks have been getting great penetration lately as wll as Langford and Merling. Just keep working the rotation.

Brady is looking to set up play after play throwing to all his receivers. If the completion percentage is closer to 55-60% because of miscues, dropped balls, great D plays, then we have them right where we want them.

If you see Moss making great catches even with great coverage, then it could be a long day. But I also see us doing some damage against them on offense. The Oline has not been happy with their blocking in the last two games. The attitude should show up for this one. They know they did not execute well. So I expect to see some good throws by Henne to get going in all facets of the game to control the clock.

Patriots will bring eveyone to the LOS and show blitz alot. I think draws and screens will work nice again and I see Ricky with at least two big gainers out of pass and run.

Never thought I'd see the day - I can't disagree with anything in this post. :(

:D

We need wake and taylor starting... rush 4, and have joey rotating in... if we play the nickel, i would want gibril covering the tight end.. My reasoning is he is one of the best run stopping safeties in the league. Which, would mean, we could contain the run better and still get a favorable match up on a tight end.. Tom brady isn't the same tom brady of two years ago. Remember when we had the perfect game plan? They didnt score in the second half of that game. We gave up 28 points but we also had 2 miscues on defense that led to touchdowns.. In that game we rushed 4 and played two safeties deep. Thats how you beat these guys. If we can score 30 we are going to win! With our run offense, and their dipleted defense theres no chance we lose..
