I dont get why when we had the same situation 4 games ago vs the Packers why we couldn't step up to the plate this time.

This defense wants to be considered "elite" and of the top defenses in the league I don't think so

I am disappointed in the individual players(Clay,Wheeler,Pouncey,ETC) but i am more disappointed in Coyle & one of our strengths considered our D-line I thought they would give it there all in the last drive and really pressure Stafford.

Let's see...they basically beat Jacksonville for the team and pitched a shutout vs. SD. They held a great offense to 13 points until the final drive.

Demand more points and production from the offense.

What has been the problem with this D for well over a decade is nobody can make a big play when it matters most. It would help though if the offense was more consistent....maybe they need to be called out by Wallace every week. Seemed to work last week.

They had NO Pass Rush on that last drive it was laughable and sad... What happen to Wake?Vernon?Jordan?McCain?

This. If the Offense can run out the clock (like most high caliber offenses do) we're talking about how the D stifled 2 high flying offenses in the Packers and Lions. The offenses inability to step on throats when it matter most is what hurts the team the most.

Actually, the defense got the offense the ball back with the lead with less than 4 minutes to play in both of those games by holding GB to a field goal and Detroit had a 3 and out after our offense scored, just to make sure we get the record straight.

There is a claim for both sides on this..
Honestly true elite Defenses will not allow the 7.
Maybe the 3 but not the 7

So their defense gets no credit for our offense not scoring more points this week? This was a tough defense for this offense.

In both games you question, our offense had the ball with under 4 minutes to play and the lead. On both occasions, our offense failed to move the ball, get a couple of first downs, and seal the victory.

Our defense was outstanding today. They made big plays and held a lot of really good offensive players at bay. The Lions made one huge play to Calvin Johnson. He will have much bigger games vs. other teams.

Our STs unit also made a huge play by blocking a FG and setting up our lone TD.

The offense did nothing today against a good Detroit defense. I think our defense played well. Our defense played well vs. Green Bay as well.

I don't care if you're playing like a used diaper factory all game long, you have to find a way to grind those last 4 minutes out. Even if you get it under the 2 minute warming a lot of times that's good enough.

On the last play the D line pressured Stafford to step forward and the coverage was damn near perfect. You can only expect so much if your going to score 16 lousy points.

When your offense doesn't show up until the second half and you lose, don't blame the defense! This offense has a bad habit of starting out slow in the first half, does pretty good in the 3rd and early 4th quarters, but just cannot sustain a drive to run out the clock when the game is on the line. It seems like Philbin's offense is never prepared at the start of the game, and turns to mush at the end of a game. The fact that Miami actually had the lead against 2 good offenses (Green Bay and Detroit) late in the game means that the defense did a decent job. Even more surprising is the fact that Miami's offense didn't show up until nearly half-time, but they still had the lead in the final minutes! This tells me that the defense is doing its job very well, but the offense is just not capable of starting or closing a game.

Don't blame the defense for failing on the last drive of the game when the offense never even played the whole game!

Agreed. If the offense makes one play on a 3rd and 5 chances are Detroit never gets the opportunity to score more than 13, or 16 at most. We are now 0 for 9 in "closeout" situations where we have the ball and the lead late in the game. Its not an easy situation for sure but you have to have a little more intestinal fortitude than we've displayed. I almost feel like we might be better off being behind by four points with 3 minutes left than have a lead.

We haven't had a decent offense in MIAMI for so long that we have developed unreasonable expectations of the defense. Hold the offense as accountable as you hold the defense. End of story.
