There are two possible draft picks "maybe" within the supplemental draft that might interest miami.

1st would be Paul Oliver CB out of Georgia. He is an all american that shut down Calvin Johnson

. He was reguarded with Cason as one of the two top Cornerbacks to be coming out in next years draft and a definite first rounder maybe even a top 10 pick. He has the size, speed and abilities to be an elite type of CB, better then any that were in the draft this year.

He has been declared academically ineligible for next year's season so we have a shot to take him. It might take a 3rd or even a 2nd rounder to take him though for the bidding.

2nd would be Jared Gaither LT out of Maryland. He is a right tackle but has the athletic ability and size that might interest us as a left tackle even in the future. The boy is huge, and powerful and has great potentials he would be a top 15 pick last year and would of went most likely 1st round this year because of the potentials. He has not yet been declared for the Supplemental draft but the rumor is he will be as he is not on the active roster for maryland this season.

It could be that we could get him for a 3rd or 2nd rounder for the bidding perhaps even a 4th (doubt it LT prospects are rare and beloved).

I thought I would bring this up for you all to consider.

Would you want to take a chance with one of these two, giving up a next years first day pick but getting a person in a position of need? sometimes it works out like Brooks for Cincy last year was a complete steal for a 3rd rounder. Sometimes it doesn't (see wright whom the bills even just cut).

NOTE: This was posted in other forum, but wanted to share with you, since I couldn't agree more with this post...

I would take Paul Oliver for a 3rd rounder, but I wouldn't want to give up anymore then that.

I think you should change your countdown.

As for the supplemental draft, I'll give a 4th for Paul Oliver but not more than that.

Didn't notice, thanks for the reminder..., as for Paul Oliver, he clearly desreves a 3rd maybe a mid to late second (for a sup draft), he is clearly a 1st rounder talent for the 2008's Draft.

He shutted down Calvin Johnson and Sidney Rice, he is also number 7 on scott wright's top 10 for next year

7. Paul Oliver Cornerback 6-0 / 201 Georgia

Paul OliverIf not for another serious injury (ruptured patellar tendon this spring after missing '06 with a torn ACL) Nebraska's Zack Bowman would probably be the top rated senior corner available this year but that honor now belongs to Paul Oliver. An elite recruit coming out of the prep ranks who had to wait his turn before finally getting a chance to start, Oliver really emerged as a junior in 2006 and there is no telling how high his draft stock could soar if he can build on that momentum this fall. From a size/speed standpoint Oliver has everything you look for and his best football is still ahead of him so remember his name because you will be hearing it a lot the next 12 months.

gaither is in it? since when and why

As a Builldog, I got to see a lot of Paul Oliver and the guy is the real deal. He matched up well against Johnson and Rice. He hits very well and he has good hands. The only knock on him may be his speed. I'm interested to see what he runs in the 40.

I understand that it doesn't necessarily take smarts to play football in the NFL, but I still think it raises a pretty big red flag when I guy is listed as academically ineligible from a big SEC football school like UGA. These guys are given so many breaks when it comes to classes, homework, tests, and majors. To still make poor grades suggests a guy is putting little to no effort into his schoolwork.

I'm not saying we should not take him, but I would definitely do my homework on the guy. Is he failing because he spends his free time partying constantly? If we are going to sacrifice a draft pick from next year in order to take a guy in the supplemental draft, I would like to know exactly what we are getting. We have already seen how this can backfire with Manny Wright.

I wouldn't mind taking a chance on either Oliver or Gaither with a third round pick. While the talent is definitely there with both players, I think giving up anything higher than a 2nd rounder would be too risky. There is a reason these guys are in the supplemental draft. The way Manny Wright turned out should raise even more doubts within our front office.

what are our chances of getting a guy like paul oliver?? I am sorry for my ignorance, i know what the sup draft is but i dont know how it works. How are the picks distributed? thanks

The value is relative. The draft is always a gamble, but would you rather have Manny Wright or Mark Anderson available at that pick the next year. Brooks from Cinci seems good, but is he better than Booker or Solai

Gaithers is a heck of a LT...a 3rd would be great for some1 who will protect Beck for years to come..This would be a steal.

i would gladly spend 2nd rounder on oliver
