Quick question, I read somewhere that Pat White will definitely be the number 2 quarterback. Not necessarily because he beats out Henne but because of his involvement in the wildcat offense. I believe that when another quarterback enters the game other then the starter, it has to be the number 2 QB, or that player can not play the rest of the game. So if Henne is our number 2 quarterback and White comes in for the Wildcat being listed as the number 3 QB on the chart, Henne would be out for the entire game since the number 3QB entered the game before the number 2.

Anyone know if this is true?

There is nothing definite about the #2 or #3 QB at this time. The coaches are exploring different options including maybe carrying all three on the active roster instead of having the 3rd QB as the 46th active player on the 45 man game day roster.

It's all just speculation at this point AFAIK. I find it hard to believe if White stinks it up in camp he's definitly anything but inactive.

There is no rule like that in the NFL. Sounds more like a baseball rule.

NFL'S "third-quarterback" rule -- sometimes misunderstood:

Seventeen years ago (1991) the third-quarterback rule was instituted to enable teams to have an emergency quarterback available who was not on the 45-man game-day active roster, since many teams, for strategic purposes, only carried two quarterbacks on their game-day roster.

Everybody thinks they understand the NFL's "third-quarterback" rule. But do they?

The rule states that if a third quarterback is inserted before the fourth quarter, a team's first two quarterbacks cannot be used in the game at any position.

Another aspect of the rule is sometimes misunderstood. It is a coach's decision as to whether a third quarterback will be used.

The active quarterbacks do not have to be injured for a team to use its third quarterback.

I think what is misunderstood about this rule is that it does not necessarily pertain to the 3rd string QB but rather the emergency QB.

Teams are allowed 45 active players on Sundays plus an emergency QB. If Henne and White are listed as active players (included as part of the 45) they can enter and leave the game at any time. Of course this would mean that we would have one less player at another position but the 45th player is usually just depth and a STer.

Ok I can admit when I am wrong, but the rule is only if you use an emergency quarterback who is not on the active roster. So there is a rule, but if all 3 QBs are on the active roster you can use them however you want.

Ok so why not just list him as a receiver if that is the case. If both QB's go down you can line anyone you want up under center at that point. Nothing says you have to carry three QB's and nothing says you can not carry a receiver who can play QB.

Hell if Swisher can pitch for the Yanks I am sure the coaching staff will get aroung the 3rd QB rule. hahahahaha. Loop holes.

Exactly.

When will everyone stop making a big ****ing deal out of something that isnt a big deal?

Didnt Ronnie take snaps at QB last year? Of course. So even if there were a rule that a 3rd string QB takes a snap at QB and the other QBs cannot take a snap again, simply list White as a RB or WR. Problem solved. Its not a big deal. And if it would require him to wear a different number.....so be it.

None of this is going to be a ****ing problem. White will run the wildcat, Pennington will run the base offense, and Henne will be Pennington's primary backup QB. Relax already. Jesus.
