Are Women allowed to enter the NFL as players? or is this against the rules? :foundout:

also,

Why do Americans/or Why was the Sport Called FOOTball when you hardly use your Foot?

Fottball in the UK, is obviously ''Soccer'' (Football being the name for ''soccer'' because you use your Foot!) :winkwink:

anyone know the answer to these?

As far as I know, women could "try out" for the team, however it is doubtful that they could compete physically with the men, some of whom are pushing 350 LBS. I think I recall a story of a lady kicker in college. They would have to beat out the guys, and thats tough.

Unsure of the answer why its called Football, other than tradition and that the foot is important in kicks and punts.

I don't believe there is any rule against women playing in the NFL. We have women whi play High School and College ball, so I would assume they could play pro ball as well.

As far as the name being football, it is because we stole the name from you guys. You see we're clever enough to invent a new sport, but we're too lazy to think up a real name. So how is football season going over there?

cool, Wonder how brady sliped through the ranks? lol

Still wonder about the Football name... strange

In Fact, The Premiership have just announced that Games could be played abroad to the highest bidder in 2010. Man u, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool etc could be heading West ;-)

Thats Football (Soccer) Not Handball.

Yeah, I played with a Chick Kicker a few years ago in High School, so i guess there wouldnt be a rule against it, as for the name my only guess is there are more general kicking plays then others (I.E Punting,Field Goal,Kickoff, Onside Kick, to Pass Run and Defense)

Unnecessary roughness? Kathy Ireland made a great kicker

When football was originally started they didn’t throw it was just running and kicking. So maybe they thought football would be a good name. I don’t really know just throwing something out there.

I believe it's because when the game first started the forward pass was illegal, therefore running and kicking were the only plays made.

Hence why "soccer" is called "football" in europe

Chelsea are a PowerHouse, but not THEEE Powerhouse this year, they are 3rd. Arsenal at the Top, Manchester United are 2nd as it stands. But all close on points.

spose years ago with no passing, it was run-kick-ball. I get a lot of it over hear, people always asking me, Why the Yanks call it FOOTBALL. wierd.

Another good question would be why is RUGBY called Rugby, A sport so close to American Football, yet i cant stand it! but very similar sports. but hence, not called Football.:winkwink:

Well for one football was actually invented durring a soccer game, one guy just picked up the ball and started running with it, which offended the other team so they started running after him. That all ended with a tackle and some decided to make a game out of it. At the time, Football looked alot more like rugby than what we're seeing today.
