Our superstar QB has 2 TD passes in four games. One of them was an incredible catch by Chambers and the other one was what amounted to a meaningless TD when the Texan's defense had somewhat softened up. Culpepper, because of today's very late (too late) TD is now on pace for a staggering EIGHT TD passes. Say what you want say about our O-line and make any excuse you like for Culpepper, but THIS is unacceptable from the QB position. Our O-line is not good, but Culpepper is making them look twice as bad. This offensive line is not worse than last years. The major problem is indecision from the QB. He is completely lost. When your running back has 8 catches and your pro bowl reciever has 3 (one until the 4th quarter) something is wrong. I have no problem with Ronnie getting the ball, but the reason he is getting the ball is because Culpepper has no confidence to throw down field. How is this not obvious to everyone?
Another problem with Culpepper (and I've noticed this in the preseason and watched him live and have seen it up to now) is that he is VERY slow on his drops and setting his feet. This really compounds the problems when facing blitzes because he is not giving HIMSELF time to set up and make good, hard throws. Harrington, on the flip side, is very quick in his drops and much more decisive in his delivery. There was alot of rythm to it. Culpepper has ZERO rythm. NONE. Zilch. This is also very obvious.
Lastly (for now) if Culpepper KNOWS the blitz is coming (which he did) and he knows that there will be as many one on one match ups BECAUSE of the all out blitzes, then why didn't he make the throws to the one on one match ups that he had ALL DAY!? No excuses for that. The blitzes were no surprise, yet Culpepper still failed to attempt to get rid of the ball. On all but one sack, Culpepper had time to either attempt a throw OR throw the ball away. Instead, he held on to the ball and was sacked.
People can continue to make excuses for him, but it won't change the fact the Culpepper is playing POORLY and it has MORE to do with him than anything else. Yet people will continue to protect him, much like they did with Feeley. And we all see how that turned out.

**On another note: the play calling wasn't that bad today with the exception of the two point conversion play. (WTF was that?).

I only disagree with ur comment about playcalling. Why dont we ever run our 235 lb, #2 overall pick on third and short?

Texan's D softened up? :sidelol:

An 0-3 team playing for their first win, only up by 8, and you think they softened up?

Hysterical.

I agree. We definetly should have ran more. But I think the penalties and sacks had as much to do with the lack of running today as the play calling did. Particularly early in the game when we kept knocking ourselves out of short yardage situations.

Yes, they DID. On the last drive the Texans didn't blitz until we got inside the 20 yard line, then they started to blitz again. It was on one of those blitzes that Chambers got wide open for the TD pass.

They changed coverage, schemes, and blitz packages, they didn't "soften up."

actually the 2 point conversion play wasnt a bad call. everything went well on the play and it should have worked, but marty booker's ******* slipped and missed the perfectly thrown ball by ronnie.

I'll agree with you for the most part that some of the blame lands on Culpepper, he needs to make the throws. He is taking to much time and not getting the ball of when he should (ie the blitzes you were talking about). However, the O-Line is still bad and I think our offensive woes are more related to our O-Line play than Culpepper. Their not opening enough running foom for Ronnie or giving enough time for Culpepper. Granted, Culpepper needs to know not to hold on to the ball for 10 seconds. The playcalling I can't understand. We have to stop going into shotgun formation so many times on 2nd downs. It seems that every 2nd down we're in it. What happens? 90% of the time it's a pass. The defense knows this, resulting in an incomplete pass or worse. We end up on 3rd down with 6+ yards. Guess what? Shotgun again.

Because he's better suited to be a tight end.

When they backed off of the blitzes that worked all day, it was softening up. They played off the recievers to protect against the deep stuff. The underneath stuff was there. When we got close and the field tightened up, they played up and blitzed again. Chambers was left one on one and it was FINALLY exploited.

A presnap read would solve alot of problems with this team
