Speaking of QBs, here's how we could have gotten an A+ grade in the 2001 Draft...
Round 1 - Drew Brees. Imagine if we had Brees and Ricky Williams on the same team in 2002 and 2003? Even Dave Wannabe couldn't have screwed that up. (Actually, he probably could have.)
Round 2 - Chambers. Oh yeah, we got him.
Round 3 (85th) - RB Rudi Johnson. But he would have been a "reach."
Round 3 (88th) - QB Chris Weinke. The only knock against him was his age. But he was one of the best college quaterbacks ever. Why a team in desperate need of a QB doesn't pick him is beyond me. !!!&$^% Wanny!!! I still believe Weinke could have been a great NFL QB. But he landed in a bad situation in Carolina. Put him on a different team, and he's their starting QB today. And don't think there isn't a good reason why Carolina has kept him around as their #2 QB for five years!
Round 4 - no pick
Round 5 - WR T.J. Houshmandzadeh. But he would have been a "reach."
Round 6 - CB Renaldo Hill. But we got him now, so it's all good.
I don't think there was anybody else worth a crap in the 6th or 7th round. If anybody knows of any players we could taken instead of Heupel, Leverette, or Crowell please let me know.
Round 7 - no pick
Other interesting facts:
Will Allen was taken in the 1st round of the 2001 Draft. Four picks ahead of Fletcher. So now we have Allen instead of Fletcher. See, it all works out.
We could taken WR Steve Smith in the 2nd round instead of Chambers, but he would have been a "reach." A reach!!! Steve Smith would have been a reach! See, that's why I don't put any stock into that "reach" talk. But I'd rather have Chambers than Smith anyway.
Also, Sedrick Hodge went in the 3rd round of the 2001 Draft. Now we have Hodge. So, hopefully, that will make up for Greenwood.
We could have taken A.J. Feeley in the 5th round. And don't think Wanny wouldn't have. But Philly beat him to it, so one pick later he took TE Shawn Draper.
