Now like most fans here, I was not around for the record breaking undefeated season. I actually became a fan during the 1994 Thanksgiving Day Leon Lett miracle. That's when my brother (he's a diehard) opened his world to me and I got sucked in. That's my story. An here's what i found on espn.com when looking for something to read and Jason Witlock's article apealed. It was a surprisingly good read. But here's what he said about the Colts

"Ten More NFL Truths"

'If Indy's defense is for real -- and I'm beginning to reluctantly think it is -- then you'd have to credit Colts general manager Bill Polian with constructing a perfect team and cementing a reputation as the best GM in sports.

Polian built the Super Bowl Buffalo Bills. He then went to Carolina and helped the Panthers reach the NFC Championship Game in their second year of existence. Now it appears Polian might be ready to out-do himself, constructing a team without weakness in the salary-cap era.

Indy obviously has a marvelous offense. The Colts also have solid special teams with kicker Mike Vanderjagt and punter Hunter Smith. If their defense is legit, then we're talking about an all-time great team. Maybe the best team of the salary-cap era.'

Now "best" is some heavy speculation, but what if? What if they are that good? Who can beat them. Here's their remaining schedule:

St. Louis
BYE WEEK
at New England
Houston
at Cincinnati
Pittsburgh
Tennessee
at Jacksonville
San Diego
at Seattle
Arizona

Traditionall the New England has owned the Colts at home. But coming off their bye week the Colts could finally break the curse, that game will be amazing, Monday Night is very happy. Pittburgh maybe. It's easy to see that they somehow (sheduling conspiracy) were awarded the schedule I wish the dolphins would of received after our 4-12 season. The Colts play in a weak division too. So now I'm thinking, could this be the year that a team finally does go undefeated? Would it mark the beginning of the "Saban era" if there is a duplicate of a team that has defined Shula and the Miami Dolphins. Would we leave the '72 team behind as a generation of new Dolphin fans, like me, can't relate in experience to the Dolphin's greatest season, especially if another were to occur. As a fan I won't be rooting for it, but Manning has way of erasing the Dolphin records (49 TD's with a 9.2 YPA).
What do you guys think?

They have a creampuff schedule and the chances are still -50% that they go undefeated. It just doesnt happen nowadays

Any team on there could beat them, that's the beauty of the NFL.

On any given sunday any team can beat any team.

NO there D is not for real. Imo they only have Freeney. There wayyy overrated imo. They always choke when it counts. Im just counting the weeks before they play somebody worth anything.

I think it will be either New England, Pittsburgh, Jacksonville, or San Diego. But one of them or SOMEONE will definitely take them out. The absolute best I can see them going would be 9-0... If they make it past New England, I don't think they get past Pittsburgh. Then again, there's even a chance Monday night that the Rams could somehow pull an upset, you never know in this league. As for Indy's D, I don't think they've been tested enough to determine whether or not they are for real, but 29 points allowed in 5 games is INCREDIBLE. I know Peyton Manning broke Dan's record last year but the 2005 Indianapolis Colts will not, I repeat WILL NOT go undefeated. No team will ever go undefeated again, the 1972 Dolphins will hold the record that will never be broken.

New England is probably the game that sticks out. I think Indy San Diego is a very tough team, but i'll say if they get by Cincy/Pitt/New England, they're going to lose to Jacksonville who will play everybody tough. Going 16-0 is impossible for any team IMO, and while Indy is the best team in the league, IMO, they'll lose a game or two. Even this week vs St. Louis is a difficult game, St. Louis will probably he hyped up for Martz, and I think they're going to be running the ball more, so they could give Indy some trouble.

Its way too early but really I do the Colts as a serious threat to go undefeated. People seem to forget that this team has always been a great regular season team, they consistanly win over 10 games and now they are playing with good balance. The chances are great that someone will take them down but they have a legit shot IMO. Funny thing is, you know theyd just lose in some horrific fashion to New England in the playoffs.

I posted this a couple of weeks ago - I am just amazed at how stupid the schedule makers give them such an easy schedule- an a 4 and 12 team gets the hardest.

Its a cliche but true. In any sport, the underdog can win. Of course, this is especially true in the very evened out NFL. Besides, Indy plays some very good teams. They will lose a few games, guaranteed!

I believe the NFL set the majority of teams' schedules in stone for the next few years in 2001.

Yes, their schedule makes no sense to me. I do not think that any team will go undefeated ever again. The NFL is different now than it was back then. I think that Pittsburg or Jacksonville will probably win against Indy. If Pitt. or the Jags do not beat them they would be something like 13-0 by then, and probably have locked up home field advantage. If that happens I don’t think Manning will play in the last few games, so San Diego, Seattle, and Arizona have a good shot at beating them without Manning at QB.

New England, Cinncinati, Pittsburgh, San Diego, Jacksonville.

All teams capable of beating Indy. That isnt to mention that this is the NFL and anything can happen.

Also I still don't think their D is legit. Wait till they play some team that can actually score. I still swear by the fact that any team with a semi passing game can run on them. They are a very small defense and completely designed to rush the passer and make turnovers in shootout style games. I think that by the end of the year this is going to catch up to them. If teams keep running on them they will be battered and worn down by the end of the year. Teams do find against Indy until they get behind by a touchdown or two and then start trying to throw the ball. That seems to be when the game gets out of hand.

I think Manning would still play even if they have homefield locked. They have too many record to worry about. This is why Edge got 2 rushing TDs in the second half of the year last year.

I'm confused of what you're saying. Do you think Dungy or Manning care about stats more than securing the #1 spot and then protecting the best players?
