Well, it looks like the Harrington deal just about sealed off the free agency period. Saban will probably be looking to make a couple minor additions, especially at LB. But there will not be any other major signings. Miami has done everything they needed to do this offseason.
The QB situation is stellar. We are all looking at the best QB roster since the Dan Marino days. Even though Ricky is out, Miami has a young pro-bowl caliber RB to take over the starting role. Ricky would only be insurance even if he was on the roster. Saban drafted his #3 WR in Hagan. Welker will get a few opportunities there again this season too. Chambers, Booker and McMichael are still filling their roles nicely. Miami's O-line looked good during the second half of 2005. With the minor changes, they should continue to be much better than what Miami experienced in 2004 and 1/2 of 2005.
The secondary has been almost totally revamped. That is an area that has a lot of growing to do this season. We will be seeing A LOT of different numbers and faces there. Hopefully, Allen & Allen will prove to be a big improvement over the outdated and patchworked secondary of 2005. The LB core is pretty much the same as last year. Thomas and Crowder will lead that core. Hodge, Spragan and Pope will fill in as needed. The D-line, in my opinion, played some excellent football last season. There are plenty of veterans in that area, as well as some young guys coming up like Roth and Wright.
It is very safe to say that Miami is a much better team this year than last. On paper, they look like a playoff caliber team. There will be alot of growing to do in the secondary. It may get ugly at times. Culpepper has a big obstacle to overcome as well. The last thing we need is another QB controversy. "Should Harringon stay in and let Culpepper heal longer?" Forget that crap. Culpepper needs to start the season and gain his confidence slowly. He needs that early part of the season leading the offense so they can get used to his style.
At best, I think Miami can make the playoffs this year. It would be OUTSTANDING to see them back in the postseason. Superbowl? It would be a fairytale story. Extremely unlikely, but not impossible. There is also the possibility of Culpepper missing the start and Harrington getting in there creating the QB controversy. That is the story where the offense gets frustrated because they can't get in sync. It has been played over and over the last couple years. We do not want that again.
Regardless, it all starts soon. VERY SOON. The mini-camps start next month and then less than two months later is the start of preseason. The early stages of the 2006 season is upon us.
GO FINS!! :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins: :dolphins:
