In 2005 the Baltimore Ravens were 6-10 and they had the following team ranks:

Offense
Points Scored: 25th
Total Yards: 24th

Defense
Points Allowed: 10th
Yards Allowed: 4th

Clearly their offense was weak and their defense was among the best in the league, and the result was a 6-10 record. Their offense was led by Kyle Boller, a 6'3" 220-pound veteran QB who never lived up to his draft status and had a bad year with a 71.8 QB rating.

Their defense of course was led by Ray Lewis and company and for the most part was stifling as usual.

In 2006 the Dolphins were 6-10 and had the following team ranks:

Offense
Points Scored: 29th
Total Yards: 20th

Defense
Points Allowed: 5th
Yards Allowed: 4th

Likewise, our offense was weak and our defense was among the best in the league. Our offense was led by a 6'3" 220-pound veteran QB named Joey Harrington, who likewise never lived up to his draft billing and had a bad year with a 72.0 rating.

Our defense was led by Jason Taylor and Zach Thomas and for the most part was stifling as usual.

In 2006 the Ravens acquired a veteran quarterback, Steve McNair, who has a career QB rating of 83.2 and had a QB rating of 82.5 in 2006. Their team ranks improved to the following:

Offense
Points Scored: 12th
Total Yards: 22nd

Defense
Points Allowed: 1st
Yards Allowed: 1st

Their record improved from 6-10 to 13-3.

Of course the talk for the Dolphins for 2007 is of acquiring Trent Green, a veteran QB with a career QB rating of 87.5 (better than McNair's 83.2), and with Joey Porter, Zach Thomas, and Jason Taylor, as well as the maturation of players like Matt Roth, Channing Crowder, and Yeremiah Bell, I believe it's fully possible that our defense improves to being the best in the league.

Who knows? With better quarterback play and an improved defense, we could go from 6-10 to 13-3 too. ;)

I wish our secondary was better. I am a big Yeremiah fan, but we dont have anything like a McAlister or Reed.

I could see us making a similar improvement on offense if Green pans out and we have any semblance of an offensive line. One thing that the Ravens have that we don't is a solid offensive line. I know a few seasons have passed since Carey's failures at LT and he was very good at RT, but I don't see him becoming the next Johnathan Ogden. The Boller-Harrington comparison is a good one. Simply adding a competent, not necessarily great QB, can be the difference between a winning and losing season. And I think a healthy Trent Green is a better QB than McNair is by far at this point.

But I don't see us becoming the best D in the league. I would be surprised if our D isn't in the 5-10 range this year, but expecting to be the best is a little too lofty IMO.

Still though, nice research and thread.

I'm seriously thinking 10-6 maybe 11-5. But a lot of things still have to fall into place. Qb, O-line, Db's...that's an awful lot in one summer, but not imposible.

Nice work shouright. Those are some really good comparisons. If we get anywhere near 13 wins it would be a fantastic season. Let's just hope the Fins improve on offense the same way the Ravens did.

The 05 Ravens would have been better if it wasn't for Boller's injury. We have more holes than they did. And Green isn't as good as McNair anymore.

We are in the right direction, though.

This is exactly what I was thinking. If we can score Trent Green and he manages the game for us while giving us the key big play a couple times we absolutely can win a ton of games. We seriously are just a QB away and always have been while Ricky and Wrongstedt were around. Notice Baltimore scored some points although they were 24th in yardage on offense. Big plays from Ginn and Co. along with great D and the occaisional clutch drive in the 4th qtr can get this team a long way.

The Ravens' Defense is a bunch of ball-hogging wolves. When they get a turnover, they just don't settle, they look to score everytime. We don't get enough of those. One Chicago game is not enough. That game is how we should always play.

That being said I love the Dolphins, & belive that they will surprise alot of people this year.

i honestly believe we are a mixture of the 06 ravens defensive style and offensively we fit the mold pretty direct of the 06 saints. now all we have to do is change time and take brees over culpepper lol
