Which teams lost the close games?
"For the 2007 season, the average margin of defeat for an NFL team was 12.5 points. But what's really interesting to note is the contrast between the three losses by the Dallas Cowboys and the three by the Indianapolis Colts. When Dallas lost, it lost by an average of 15.3 points. In their three losses, the Colts only fell by a league-best 4.0 points per game. That said, don't forget that their record is the best among teams who actually lost a game, so New England was excluded from the list. Philadelphia, Arizona and Pittsburgh were next in line behind the Colts, averaging roughly seven points per loss. In addition to Dallas, the teams that took it on the chin the hardest when they lost were the Panthers, Bills and Broncos — who all lost by an average of 16 to 19 points — and the Lions, who lost by a league-worst average of 20.4 points per game."

While the average loss of the NFL for 2007 was 12.5 points it is interesting to note that Miami's average loss margin was 11 points per game, eight that were 10 points or less. 3 were playoff teams and Buffalo could have been if wasn’t for the choke (ha!) In my honest opinion, if Miami does not win 5 to 8 games I think it would be a disappointment for the year. Any more and obviously that would be above and beyond.

and if you dont count the games vs. the pats its even less ....we i wont be surprised if we win more then five the our team is setup right now we are going to play every game just to stay close and maybe sneak out with a win

Every bad team loses alot of close games, we did too. That's what seperates the good from the bad but you can't just expect to be alot better b/c you lost close games the previous year.

Good teams win close games, bad teams find ways to lose them.

I couldn't agree more with the above statement. I also think luck has a lot to do with it. The stars were in alignment last year and Miami paid the dues. The stats don't lie thou, their loss average was less than most so with the changes it is not un-realistic to expect improvement. The odds of improvement are much better than the odds for regression that’s for sure!

So true and man we were VERY creative last year in finding new and interesting ways to lose games.... Every week someone new stepped up to the plate to show how inept we were as a team... Right now I have no expectations of the team next year.

I think we lost six or seven games by three points or less. Football is a game of inches. But i think luck as well as officiating also have there hand in the fate bucket as well. So, to lose that many games by such a small margin tells me they wern't as bad as the record showed. Don't get me wrong. They also didn't show me anything to truly be positive about either. However, i think when you combine the fact that they wern't as bad as the record showed and with the changes that have been made this off-season, there is reason to be optimistic about the future. Especially, about next season. I think a lot can change from one year to the next.

I also think now that the Pats have been caught cheating, and with teams having a full off-season to take precautions against the Pats.( changing signal calls, etc.) I think we will see a team that by no means is invincible. I look to see a huge drop off in productivity in NE. It just seems to me that after getting caught in the beginning of the year, they really had no reason to be coy about using their info to exploit teams. I think that's why we saw record breaking performances from Brady and Co. I think we'll see some Patriot losses within the division next year. Hopefully one coming from us.

The Patriots didn't cheat last year! Take of the Homer glasses. We lost close games, games that weren't close, and all games but one. The ONE game we did win we shouldn't have. If anything we were worse than our record. Last years team was horrible. This years team has beter talent but is very young. We could potentially be just as bad this year until the young guys develope. This is a brand new offensive system with many untested players. We will be better just not right away!
