1 1 (1) Jake Long T Michigan
2 1 (32) Phillip Merling DE Clemson
2 26 (57) Chad Henne QB Michigan
3 3 (66) Kendall Langford DE Hampton

4 11 (110) Shawn Murphy G Utah State
6 10 (176) Jalen Parmele RB Toledo
6 29 (195) Donald Thomas G Connecticut
6* 38 (204) Lex Hilliard FB Montana
7* 38 (245) Lionel Dotson DT

Plus Dan Carpenter and Davone Bess

That is simply an amazing draft considering the contributions they all make and the importance of their positions.

Can you post a draft that was top to bottom better than this one? I think you would have to go back to the 70s to find one.

Everyone in that draft contributes well to this team, excluding Parmele. I think the Ravens signed him off our practice squad.

I wonder why they waited so long to draft Henne.... Maybe they had inside info that no one was taking him at QB or something, because they drafted him when John Beck was here. Maybe they said, "heck, let's draft this guy and see what happens." Much like the Pat White pick. If they were looking at a QB, then they would have taken Henne at the 32 Overall pick.

1983, got Marino, Clayton, Anthony Carter and Roby (very good punter). Marino a HOFer, Clayton a 5 time pro bowler, Carter made a pro bowl and Roby made the 1980s all Decade team.

I'd say that one holds an advantage

Merling was a first rounder. He was only in the 2nd round because of an injury. Tom Brady was drafted 199th. Henne was the 57th pick in the draft. Merling was too good pass over and we needed pairs of DE's. We now have some of the best DE's in the league.

Yeah 2008 may go down as the best ever....I still like 1983 because we got Dan after many teams passed on him. We also got Roby and Clayton:

1983
1Dan Marino Pittsburgh
2Mike Charles Syracuse
3Charles Benson Baylor
6Reggie Roby Iowa
7Keith Woetzel Rutgers
8Mark Clayton Louisville
9Mark Brown Purdue
10Anthony Reed South Carolina State
11Joe Lukens Ohio State
12Anthony Carter Michigan

no matter how good this draft, past drafts,or any drafts in the future, the best will always remain the draft of 1983.....

I dont think so. I belevie 2008 draft was better. 5 starters, 2 contributors & only 2 cuts.. Thats amazing, Yeah 83 was a great draft but only 2 really contributed early besides Roby.

Dont forget we used our 4th rounder for Fasano and Ayodele plus a 6th for Fergusen. Last years draft was perfect but i wish we couldve picked up someone else this year than pat white because why would we take henne off the field and hes not even our back up quaterback.

good post, nice to have interesting reads on here....

another aspect of this draft is that parmele was ahead of hilliard in depth, before he got signed away, since hilliard is now contributing it woulda been interesting to see what his role would be now...
