2008 NFL Draft do-over: Miami Dolphins get Matt Ryan

i don't buy it. If Miami got to redraft Parcells is so damn stubborn he would have taken cornfed again even knowing what he does now. The only way Miami would redraft Ryan would be if the person in charge was a do over as well.

This wasn't that far removed from the Jamarcus Russell disaster in Oakland. The Big Tuna apparently had Ireland, Henning and Sparano run private sessions with Matt Ryan, Joe Flacco and Chad Henne. They came back with the unanimous answer that the difference between the 3 was very small and so the call was made to take Jake Long as the safe pick, because we also needed a RT to protect the QB. Remember this was before the reduction in the payment to rookies in the collective bargaining agreement, so there was very high risk.
Big Tuna was scared sh**less of another Jamarcus Russell and when the Three Stooges returned saying Henne was as good as the other guys, he was just following their collective recommendation. He valued Dan Henning's judgement most of all and Henne got the unanimous star of approval.

Well that just supports what we all already knew.....that Sparano and company are not good evaluators of QB talent.

The greatest single area of failure of this franchise since Marino was the inability to identify bona fide QB talent....passing on Drew Brees for a bust cornerback.......passing on Aaron Rogers for Ronnie Brown....and Matt Ryan and Flacco for Jake Long.

And maybe we'd have one more playoff win than we already do. BIG DEAL! We saw what Matty Ryan looks like without 2 stud WR's and a stud RB last season. Pretty much sums up what his career in Miami would have looked like.

1. Miami Dolphins
Pick: Jake Long
Do-Over: Matt Ryan
Comment: Given another chance to select a franchise quarterback over the "best player available," Bill Parcells would definitely take the signal caller in Miami. Ryan has been a standout performer since entering the league. Most important, he has consistently guided his team into the postseason with his steady hand at the position.
I am not sure how Ryan is that different from Jake Long. I think Jake went to three straight Pro Bowls in his first three years. I don't think Ryan has won a playoff game in his career. Ryan is an average QB with very good receivers.

Jake Long instead of Matt Ryan. Thank you Bill Parcells, thank you Dan Henning, thank you Tony Sporano, THANK YOU JEFF IRELAND.

Six years of my life wasted on these idiots... :boohoo:

Based on what? Lmfao

Ryan's had 2 top 10 big 6'3 wr's in roddy and Julio, the greatest pass catching tight end of all time and before this year he wasn't sacked more then 28 times (twice he had under 20 times sacked) and a decent run game. Still despite all those he hasn't really done anything amazing. He's a good qb but tannehill is much more mobile and can be just as good of a passer (in my opinion) if given protection. If you think Matt Ryan would do anywhere close to what he did on the dolphins then I'd say you don't understand football very well.

"Can be if"? That's just a nice way to spin "Hasn't been yet". Unfulfilled potential is the most terrible sin of all in the NFL. Your argument will only hold water when Tannehill has replaced "Can be if" with "Has been".

Flacco over Ryan any day

Flacco was pretty damn horrid last year. In reality he had a great run the superbowl year , but he didn't carry that team much like most qb's don't carry their team.
I for one wouldn't take Flacco over Ryan, Qbs get so overrated when their team wins a superbowl.

58 percent completion rate, 1190 yards passing, 11 TDs and 0 picks in the playoffs during that Super Bowl. I say Flacco did carry his team when it mattered most...something that Matt Ryan fails to do when the games matter the most.

No player wins football games by them self. He had a great run I admitted that.
I still wouldn't take John Elway over Dan MArino even though it seemed he played best when it mattered most to many.
