I know we are all getting pumped up about the 2009 NFL Season but let's take a step back for a second and just truely appreciate how special the 2008 season was. I was born in 1982 and I can honestly say that last season was my best Dolphins experience in my lifetime.

Week 1 featured Brett Favre's first game as the starting Quarterback for the New York Jets; the Jets came to Miami to face Chad Pennington, whom they recently released, and a Miami Dolphin team coming off a 1-15 record. The Dolphins put up a great fight but a fluke Brett Favre touchdown pass started our season where we left off just one season prior, a loser. (0-1, )

Week 2 we travel to Arizona to face the Cardinals who weren't suppossed to be a very good team. Just shows you that the NFL schedule means nothing as Kurt Warner passed all over us with Larry Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin embarassing our secondary. We lost 31-10 and the only bright spot in this game was our Quarterback of the future, Chad Henne leading a touchdown drive in his first ever NFL game. Chad Pennington yet to look like that stellar off-season acquisition. (0-2, )

As a Dolphin fan right now you are really in the dumps. Are we going to be a terrible team again? Are we a team without an identity and no coaching again? Something special happened that night. The response to this 0-2 start shows me why we have something special in Tony Sparano. It would be easy for him to say this was a rebuilding year and fold like Cam Cameron did just one season prior but Tony is a warrior and he truely belives in this team. He let David Lee "copy" a college offense and add it to their lackluster arsenal. Week 3 we travel to New England to face division rivals, the New England Patriots who have been the class of the NFL this decade and we go up there and take over the join. Ronnie Brown had one of the best games that a Miami Dolphins player has ever had, same for Joey Porter with his 4 sacks. Oh and I almost forgot we introduced the "Wild-Cat" offense . If I could name one thing that saved our season it would be the "Wild-Cat" offense. Wow did we make the Patriots look like a joke as we just kept gashing them run after run. Satisfaction was what I felt after this win but was this team a playoff team? No way just a lucky game but that feeling of winning is so so good.(1-2, :rimshot:)

Week 4: Bye

Week 5: San Diego comes to Miami and if you had Phil Rivers, LaDanian Tomlinson, or Antonio Gates on your fantasy football team you were dancing. The Dolphins do not stand a chance, right? WRONG! The Dolphins defense was brilliant and who could ever forget that 4th and 1 stuff of the great L.T. That was special. On this day Chad Pennington was that guy who could be special and one of the greatest images I have ever seen as a Dolphin fan is at the end of the game when we were in victory formation when Chad Pennington takes a knee, ggis the ball to the ref, pulls out the white towel that had been at his side all day, and started waving it the air with one hand and the other hand flying to the sky to get the crowd make some noise. At that moment I didn't see Chad Pennington as a stop-gap Quarterback, I saw him as the man, the best we have had not named Marino, Sorry Griese. At that moment, I started to believe... (2-2, )

Week 6 we go to Houston to play those pesky Texans who we can never beat but this time will be different. Two beautiful "Wild-Cat" touchdown passes from Chad Pennington to Patrick Cobbs and the game looks like a cake walk but Andre Johnson shows why he is a top player in this leage. How did he catch that ball? The Texans pull the comeback as Matt Schaubb runs in the game winner right through the middle of our defense. What a tough loss. How did we beat the Chargers and Patriots bu lose to the Texans? Chad Pennington did play off his butt though and had another stellar game. We will make the playoffs in 2009 though. (2-3,)

Week 7 the Ravens come into town and just give us a good ol' fashioned *** whipping. Chad Pennington didn't have much time and pressed which lead to Terrell Suggs intercepting a ball for a Touchdown. Our defense was run on all day and rookie Quarterback Joe Flacco threw for success against our defense. Ronnie Brown was shutout with 13 carries for 27 yards. Wow we still will have a top 10 draft pick. Will Michael Crabtree be on the board? (2-4, )

Week 8 the Bills came to Miami and at the time the Bills were hot but the heat of the Miami defense cooled them off. Joey porter had a monster game ans destroyed one of the game's premier Left Tackles in Jason Paters. Ted Ginn Jr. started to show signs of being a baller with his 7 catch, 175 yard performance. Chad Pennington was yet again accuratem efficient, and diced the Bills secondary for over 300 yards of passing. Will Allen had a tremendous interception in the end-zone here. Dolphins beat division rivals pretty solidly. (3-4, )

Week 9 we trabel to Denver which is scary because with our secondary going against Jay Cutler we are in trouble. Well that worry went away quickly as we went to Denver and proved to be the better team. Greg Camarillo had 11 catches for 111 yards and was catching everything thrown his way. Rookie Dan Carpenter had a big day connection on 3 field goals and our secondary intercepted 3 Cutler passes in which Will Allen took one to the house. (4-4,:woot:)

Week 10 featured the Seattle Seahawks coming tot own and despite their poor record this was a game that truely scared me. Ted Ginn Jr. made an unbelievable Touchdown catch in double coverage that was just amazing. The "Wild-Cat" had another wrinkle which lead to Ricky Williams taking the ball 51 yards untouched for a score. Ronnie Brown sealed the game with a superb 16 yard run for a score. (5-4, :hi5:)

Week 11 the Oakland Raiders come to town; a game I really want to win because the year before Daunte Culpepper and the Raiders kicked our ***. Teddy Ginn continues to impress when he took an end around for a score. It wasn't pretty but as Chad Pennington stated," you will take them any way you can get them" . The play for me in this game was Davone Bess catching a 16 yard slant but dragging defenders fighting for another 11 yards. This kid was a STEAL!!!!!(6-4,) 4 in a ROW!!!

Week 12 the Patriots came to Miami and got their rvenege. this game probably made Matt Cassell a rich man but you had to like the fight this team put up. Ricky Williams made an amazing catch for a Touchdown beating Rosevelt Colvin. Chad Pennington ran in a touchdown and showed the guts of a champion. The Patriots as them classless selves ran up the score. We still had the last augh (6-5, :boohoo:-No Playoffs)

Tony Sparano started his slogan of " Why not us?". We go to St. Louis to play the Rams and even though it was discouraging the ease that Steven Jackson ran all over us we came out with a win. Davone Bess started to really surface as he made some big-time catches. Ronnie Brown has an awesome touchdown run as he spun off a big hit and dived for a score. Dan "Money" Carpenter kicked 4 field goals and our defense came up big holiding the Rams to four field goals and no touchdowns. Akin Ayodele, Renaldo Hill, and Andre Goodman all intercepted Marc Bulger passes. (7-5,:hi5:)

Week 14 was awesome as we traveled to toronto to play the Bills and our defense held them to just 3 points. The NFL reporters started to ask," Who this Davone Bess guy" was as he had 8 catches for over 70 yards. Joey porter gathered another 2 sacks and the Bills must really hate this guy the way he dominated them all season. Dolphins win 16-3! Why not us? (8-5.)

Week 15 had the 49ers came to town and once again our defense didn't allow a touchdowbn. Three straight games without allowing a touchdown, Special! Chad Pennington had 2 TD passes in which one was when David Martin made a marvelous 61 yard play as he snatched the ball from 49ers Safety Mark Roman and took it to the house. Who could forget the games closing? Joey Porter beating Barry Simms for the game winning sack when he throws his helmet and all the Dolphins swarm him... Special (9-5,)

Week 16: the Dolphins do it to me again they get on this winning streak and get me excicted but choke in Kansas City. The coldest game at -15 that the Dolphins franchise has ever played in but WAIT,,,, this team has marbles. Patrick Cobbs took the opening kick-off 60 yards and on the very first play from scrimmage Teddy ginn takes an end-around to the house. Anthony Fasano started to show signs of becoming an elite Tight End in this league with two HUGE touchdown catches, the one when he drug Chiefs defenders into the end-zone was SPECIAL. Chad Pennington added a 3rd TD pass to David Martin and despite the cold, our Dolphins did it! (10-5, WHY NOT US!!:rimshot:)

Week 17: For all the marbles. The greatest author's of our time couldn't write a better book. The two teams who started this all off in Week 1, the Dolphins and Jets, are here at the end fighting for a division title. Could Chad Pennington revenge the team that released him for the flashy Brett Favre or would the Jets win the division at home. It seemed early on that the Jets had this game as Pennington fumbled which lead to Favre to Coles for the first score. We didn't panic, we regrouped and the Jets did not know what hit them. Ted Ginn Jr. once again as he had done all season shut the mouths of his critics as he made a big time touchdown catch on Dwight Lowery to tie this game. Ginn also made another huge catch in double coverage later in the game. Phillip Merling, a rookie who we are all excited about, intercepts a Favre screen pas and takes it for a TD. Chad Pennington connects with a BEAUTIFULtouchdown pass to Anthony Fasano. When Charlie Anderson blocked that punt I feel to my knees with tears in my eyes as it was without question one of the most beautiful things I had ever seen. It wasn't a 5"7 blonde with a nice rack, tan skin, and a booty that makes you quiver it was the all american story. A team down in the dumps coming off of a 1-15 season fought hard, worked harder, became a team, believed, the coaching staff believed, the fearless leader (Chad Pennington) stepped up when it mattered most, and we are the AFC EAST DIVISION CHAMPIONS! For the next two weeks I would go to Aqua Vision on miamidolphins.com and watch the video entitled "Post game Celebration" that featured all the players wearing their grey division title hats, Tony Sparano who was robbed of the NFL Coach of the Year leading victory speach, and Joey Porter leading the victory cheer with all the players yelling "Who Ride? We Ride? Who Ride? We Ride. Let's Ride on 3..1-2.-3 LET's RIDE!!!!!!! Chills. It gives me chills.

I hope 2009 is half as special but to me 2008 was the greatest season I had ever experience as a fan of the Miami Dolphins.

Great Work Driscoll.
I gotta admit I teared up a bit reading it.

Just that feeling is what makes football the best game. Watching Pennington lead this team in my opinion was one of the top single season performances I have ever seen. It wasn't the way that Peyton Manning ot Tom Brady did with all the statistics in the world; it was a working man taking a sinking ship on his shoulders and saying follow me and I will lead you to victory. I like Chad Henne, I like Pat White but at the end of the day they are nowhere near the calibur of Pennington. I hope Pennington is here for the next 5 years. Throwing wrinkles in the "Wild-Cat" can make up for Pennington's arm defeciencies.

Once a day I watch that celebration video and the hair on my neck stands and I feel like I am a part of something. Really have to say 2008 was special and only a Super Bowl can top it

Chills. It gives me chills.

Now Imagine if we can actually get to the superbowl this year and have homefield advantage.

Good Post:up::hclap:

First, Great Post Post ( love the emotion)

Second, i have to agree, last year is the reason why Football is the greatest sport in the world. Their is no soap opera in the world that could come up with better Drama then the NFL or the 2008 Miami Dolphins.

Im 32 or 33, geez I cant remember right now :). and by far last year was the most fun I have ever had as a fan of the dolphins, hell its the most fun I have ever had as a fan of any sport or etertainment medium.

Cant wait for the video year book.

And agreed the only thing that could top last year will be a Super Bowl.

I agree last year was awesome. Before last year my favorite Dolphin game I ever attended was the 2001 (I think thats the year) playoff game when we played the Colts/Manning. Lamar Smith had that awesome run and we one the game it was so electric.

Then last season my GF bought us tickets (Xmas present) and we went to the last home game vs. SF. For some reason I never felt the crowd so electric. We were sitting next to a bunch people that we never met before and it was like we really knew them. We were all high fiving and jumping all over the place and some guy I didn't even know hugged me after to Porter sack to seal the game. It was crazy. I have never been to a better game nor have I ever felt so happy after a win. This by far was my favorite Dolphin experince ever and I have been a fan since birth (my parents are Die Hard Phin fans).

Nice Job, too bad you were too young to see the 1984 season, that season was amazing, too bad Danny was not able to have one more great game, and out gun Joe Montana.
