What to do with our LB corps. Simple. Sign Channing Crowder!!! Why? Besides the fact that he led MIA in tackles until the one game he missed and Bell passed him by a couple tackles???

Simple. MIA has Oyodele, who was our best cover LB. Then, the player that would've led us in tackles in the MLB spot. What we need to do is "draft" an ILB to groom behind Crowder and Oyodele and provide good depth. Then, if the rookie impresses, he can take over for whichever one doesn't play Pro Bowl ball.

However it plays out, you have a security blanket in Crowder, with the rookie, just in case one of our starters gets injured. Remember, we only had "one" backup for "both" LB spots: Torbor.

We don't need an upgrade over Crowder (who practically led us in tackles), but a better upgrade in our depth at LB...Torbor.

I say we use our 2nd round pick on an ILB and a 1st round pick on an OLB to replace Quentin Moses and groom behind Porter. Keep "both" Roth and Anderson. THey do a good job combo together.

I expect Sparano to ask Roth to lose 10-15lbs to be our full time LOLB opposite Porter and rotate with Anderson.

So there you have it:

LOLB: a lighter Matt Roth/C. Anderson
LILB: C.Crowder/2nd round pick
RILB: A.Oyodele/Torbor
ROLB:J.Porter/1st round pick

That's the way you save money for re-signing our players, signing a new FS, and upgrading our OL and DL.

Not everyone shares your man love for Crowder. An ILB in a 3-4 that can stuff the run is nothing special. The guys on the outside pressuring the qb are, and thats where the big money goes. I dont mind Crowder, but if he leaves, its not the huge setback you make it sound like. He can be replaced.

we need to resign crowder...period. He may not be a top tier linebacker yet but he is pretty good. If we dont then we need to draft someone there in the first round. Matt Roth will be fine.

But maybe we draft another linebacker as well? Maybe a brandon spikes?

Let Crowder and Roth both go...neither one of them are anything special, and can be replaced through FA and the Draft...you guys who think Crowder is any good need to explain to me where he's any good at besides making tackles down field after he's allowed the opposing player to gain 5,6,7 yards or more...because i just don't see it...in my honest opinion...we need to upgrade over Channing Crowder and let him go,and i hope that's what we do...we need SOLB to play opposite Porter, and another WOLB to spell Porter some...and both our ILB positions need to be upgraded...

ayodele may have been our best cover LB but i saw him get exposed during the KC game. then again, our whole defense was exposed. but i swear i think he is one of the worst cover LB. roth was pretty good covering a TE and RB but not a WR.

Now about the draft. there is NO WAY we will use the first and second pick to get linebackers. the only position that would get that attention would be CB, and i still dont think that will happen. maybe a CB in first and LB for second.

but besides those two points, good post.

we let morlon greenwood walk when his contract rolled around and he's a better backer than crowder.we let both willis and the poz slip by in past drafts for lesser players.i've been a big fan a USC's corp of rivers, mauluga and cushing for years. rivers is gone.rey is top 10 but brian cushing will be there when we pick.he's had some injury issues but outplayed laurenitis (choker) in their game this season and i think will be a great pro.
spend some fr#cking FA money and add lewis or vilma and the LB corps is set.

Lewis is just about at the end of his HOF career...we need youth as well as talent at our LB positions...we don't need Lewis...and i personally want us to continue to build through the draft..and add just the right amount of younger, but experienced and talented FA...

lewis and vilma are miami guys just like zach is a texas guy. i'd take 2 great seasons to spend our draft picks on the secondary and O-L.

If Crowder could make all those tackles AT THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE, I'd say keep him.

But, since he reacts a split second too late and makes all those tackles three to four yards PAST THE LINE OF SCRIMMAGE ....

I did kind of notice that too. BUt I think that that was more a knock on Ferguson, who I don't think had as good a year as people make it out to be. Ferguson struggled a lot this past Sunday...and he provides no push up the middle...just my take.

Drop Crowder, pick up a veteran ILB to run our defense, and teach the young ones that we draft. We can't have Crowder teaching the youths. He doesn't know his geography, much less, he doesn't know where to meet the running back at the line. And he is a follower, not a leader. Everytime he runs his mouth, its usually behind JP.

How many 1st round DE olb conversion project you see per year who get alot playing time in the first year ...not a lot. Its a long conversion project and takes time. If you get a OLB/DE project then the projected playing time should be around 20-30% for year 2 and going up to be a starter unless he is a top 5 pick meaning very atheltic then maybe a few snaps in year 1.But again in NFL you put a rookie DE as OLB offenses will keep releasing TE and Slot receiver behind him forcing him to drop in coverage and ran the flat cross routes to death or throw in the zone the OLB has vacated.

I do not understand "teach the defence" statement. that is what a coach is for. ILB read plays and some guys do it faster and some are slower. their is nothing to teach its something one has to develop and react. It has nothing to do with speed or experience it is more to do with developing the skill of looking tape and regonising formations in a split second.

I'm not opposed to resigning Crowder, but, not at top ILB money. He's not worth it. Average of top 1/3 ILBs? Ok...I'll go with that, but overpaying for him is silly, IMO. We DEFINITLY need, as I've said; Help up the middle. S, ILB, NT. It's critical.

Crowder needs to the other ILB, we need a stud ILB that Crowder could compliment. And by no means can we give Crowder big money, M.Perterson or B.Scott would be more attractive $ wise alternatives.

I think they should draft the most talented guy at their draft spots and then let them compete in training camp for the starting jobs.

At all positions except for QB & left tackle. :d-day:

Channing was above average, but you'll never get a great player if you are happy with above average. Remember Wanny & the way he rode JJ's defense into the ground.
