Could the trifecta found a true diamond in the rough. Lets keep our eye on this guy. Any small college guy who expects to have success in the nfl has to #1 dominant the competition around him. Mr Ellis has already done that. I think we may have found our sleeper. time will tell.

DL Louis Ellis, Shaw (6-2, 315, Sr.) — Maybe the HBCU’s ranks next great pass rusher following in the footsteps of Colts DE Robert Mathis. Ellis has an excellent first step and is explosive in rushing the passer. The former Shaw standout was named CIAA Defensive Player of the Year for the second consecutive year in ‘08 as Shaw won their second consecutive CIAA Championship. Ellis was the leader of a Shaw defensive unit that was ranked Number #1 in total defense (#1), rushing defense (#1), tackles for a loss (#1) in Division II. The CIAA’s leader in tackles for loss (16 solo and 8 assisted) and was second in the conference with 8 sacks. Ellis was also credited with 60 total tackles. Played in Texas vs. the Nation All-Star Game.

he sounds like the real deal. now we gotta hope his game translates to the next level

Armando Salguero is warming up to him also.

Finally, you should remember this is a non-contact camp. But free agent nose tackle Lewis Ellis got my attention as he is 320 pounds and not fat. He is just seemingly country strong and that showed at times even in these drills as he showed good penetration on a couple of snaps.

He's one of three UDFAs I will be keeping a close eye on...the others being Brennan Marion and Mark Lewis.

they did it with davone bess last year undrafted , so im a believer hope ellis does well

So, it was just being part of a small school that kept Ellis from getting drafted?

I said it in another thread, "This guy is my sleeper!!!" If you watch the youtube of him, he never gives up on plays. He will follow receivers down the field, and if someone slows them up...he will pancake them. Great motor for someone of his size!!! Also, he seems to show good "quickness", though his 40 time is about the same as Raji.

I like the kid. I hope he makes the team.

I like what Sparano said in the post-practice bit today. He was talking about how in '08 Bess and Carpenter turned into pretty nice players for being undrafted free agents, and how he hopes that they could get 2 undrafted guys to make the roster each year.

CK named the 3 that I'd guess have the best shot to make the team: Shaw, Marion and Lewis. Maybe 2 of the 3 will (Shaw & Lewis are my guess).

i think he will be ok this year but when fergie is ready to hang them up this guy is going to be dominant

I posted before on another thread

I have seen Louis Ellis play he is Big and Mean, he is a beast playing DT... Soliai is good, but now he has to prove himself, he was worried in the draft (Crapping Bricks they say)... Yes I am excited to see finally a DT who could stop the run in the middle, an OLB besides Porter who would make things easier for our much more improved secondary.....

To tell you guys the truth.... I am anxious and excited.... Things look good

it doesnt make sense why we didnt draft him if he is good? we traded our 2nd 7th round pick away...
