I have been surfing the web and several threads of Finheaven's forums and there's a common thing: everybody seems focused on comparing our current team with last season's.

While it's easy to search some "upgrade" or "bettering" comparing both rosters, but I think it's incorrect to follow such approach.

"Incorrect" because it's unfair to compare a team that was debuting a new offense, while being unable to prepare after a huge lockout, a short free agency and poor OTAs. Then HC Tony Sparano was living a nightmare, after being betrayed by his former friend GM Jeff Ireland. In 2011 Sparano lose control of the team, especially on offense and was forced to use "creative" ideas that took time to produce.

While some teams used simplified offensive schemes and defensive packs, Miami was trying very complicated things, so 2011 is not a good point of comparison because some opponents got similar issues adjusting and strong teams just continued with previous work or simplified schemes.

It was awful to see how Chad Henne was trying to play above his abilities and his teammates were in a different page at every single play, while the defensive backs where suffering cramps during the first games showing unprepared for the season in several ways. Then poor preparation created key injuries on several teams and the offense started to work with corrections on the offensive line and better usage of running attack, so the record moved up in the W column.

So a better approach should be trying to compare our current roster and coaching staff with other NFL teams and perhaps the Miami Dolphins of 2010.

That said, what are your REALISTIC expectations about the 2012 Dolphins?

This 2012 Team will be significantly better than last years team....same people different thinking, and no we are not rebuilding we are retooling. There is a difference. We will suprise and make the playoffs!

It's a very different team, indeed. However that can cut both ways: you can argue this team is completely retooling itself, and as such expectations should be lowered.

Realistically, I think 10-6 it's not out of reach.

I agree, 10-6 is realistic if everyone's health holds up.

However, I don't want the team to forget last year's abysmal start. I want them to remember that bitter taste and do everything they can do NOT to have it happen again.

I think we have a better stat with better players and a better coaching staff. I see no reason that we cannot go 10-6, in fact, i expect it if Matt Moore starts.

"Nothing is anything until it is compared to something" (A LUGism*) So we need last season to compare this team with. I do understand the point you are making however.

*In other words, at 6'4" I'm not tall until compared to someone shorter. I will always remember going from High School to College and realizing that I was NOT tall. From that time on, when people tell me I'm tall, I say "no, you are short".

2011 Erased from our minds? That's just what Ireland is expecting us to do..

With that I'll say 9-7. Hope it's better tho..

HAHAHA!
Ireland wanted us to forget his horrible free agency fails including names like: Ernest Wilford, Gibril Wilson, Richie Incognito & Jake Grove.
Also you can bet Jeff would like us to avoid talking about the Pat White experiment and the hiring of Brian Daboll as OC.

I'm usually optimistic and i'll shoot for 9-7 this year... I think it will go more like 7-9 though......... going to need another year or two with good coaching to get up to par with the elite teams

Parcells is that you????

Parcells is that you????

Ok, ok, ok. Touchez

Jeff was learning the business but in fact the draftee failures are 100% Ireland's and Pat White was an experiment after the good results of the Wildcat, but the guy was too slim for NFL.
Also both Incognito & Grove stuffs occurred when the big tuna wasn't in charge.

You just quoted yourself. Regardless of the point you're tryin to make, that's pretty douchey.

Now is our time...

I was once, and will die being, a hardcore gambler. Going to GA helped me learn the power of living in moment -- my salvation stems from that critical fact. I say F the past season: F 2011. Our time is now! Believe it, know it, own it, when? NOW!

If you do not remember and learn from your past you are doomed to repeat it............
Ok, during 2011 Dolphins' coaching staff ...
... lose any contact with players, so they weren't capable of preparing OTA's, leading to inefficient and insufficient activities.
... was unable to track of the physical condition of the players during all spring and summer, causing poor preparation.
... placed a new running tandem based on a rookie, so opponents focused on passing game.
... used a new playbook with few weeks to learn it.

How can we repeat that?
