Our most glaring hole on this team has gotta be RT and to a lesser extent RG. FA is pretty weak for the RT spot. RG spot has some big time talent but it will be expensive. The draft has some potential talent (Reiff, Martin, Kalil) and then there are the players on our roster...

Question is, do we make it a three man competition between Murtha, Garner and Jerry for that RT spot? and maybe draft DeCastro? The fan base would not be happy with that choice even though DeCastro is going to be a hell of a player in this league.

I think with Philbin wanting a more athletic line, Murtha and DeCastro makes the most sense (unless something crazy happens in the draft where Blackmon or Coples falls but highly unlikely) Murtha was definitely terrible 2 years ago but surprisingly played pretty well playing for Long on the left side last year before his injury.

Or we could sign a guy like Grubbs or Nicks through FA which will be very expensive and draft Rieff (Philbin has connections to Iowa). We would potentially have the best offensive line in football with this lineup. Sounds enticing, but I'd rather use the money on a guy like Mario Williams to line up opposite Wake on the 4-3 Dline though.

I think the signing of Grubbs/Nicks plus the addition of Reiff makes perfect sense if the Fins bring in Flynn or Manning as they would look to protect the hell out of these guys with no doubts in their minds. Between the bringing in a QB and one of those OGs though, that would be our FA and our draft would be heavy defense.

Any suggestions?

I liked what Jerry showed, and I think he deserves a look at one of the spots. I think Murtha gets a look too, but I would like to add another in FA or the Draft. But, not in the top 10

Flynn Meachem Grubbs
TRADE DOWn and acquire another 2nd and draft a wr te and T

The thing is... you can't solve every need in one year. If you are to use the Draft/FA for playmakers across O and D... it may leave existing solutions for the right side of the line. Garner at RG and Jerry/Murtha fight it out at RT. I would like to think that it would be an upgrade over Carey and Columbo.. from an athleticism standpoint for sure, so from an ability standpoint they could do more. Experience wise, would be lacking.

Not saying this is a long term solution, but it could be seen as an interim solution to get through the year then go after greater talent for the OL in 2013.

Thoughts?

My suggestion is to sign QB-Flynn and G-Carl Nicks as Free Agents In the Draft, take WR-Jeffery 1st rd, OT-Mike Adams 2nd rd. It's very doable and would not require trading up or down.

After the week Adams had, he won't be had in round 2, he is a clear first rounder and arguably the best tackle in this class. Nicks is going to be very costly, but he would be a great addition at LG. I'm not as worried at RT because I Think with Jerry/Garner/Murtha, you have a guy who can man down the RT spot and I think Incognito would be a much better fit at RG than LG and I wouldn't discount Vernon Carey coming back either, he didn't have a bad season at RG.

This team can't afford to pass on an impact player with their 1st pick. What separates the Phins fromthe elite teams is a QB and 1-2 impact players. A G or RT helps solidify the team, but not make an impact in the sense of making game changing plays. A dynamic WR, pass rushing LB/DE or shut down CB is what we need in the 1st rd (assuming the QB issue is addressed). I'm personally hoping Coples, Claiborne or Blackmon drops to our pick. In fact, I would love to see a run on LT's before our pick because that would mean one of those guys drops to us.

I love DeCastro and think he will go higher than projected, maybe even top 10. So much depends on free agency. The Dolphins really need to (at the very least) get their qb and a pass rusher in the offseason whether through the draft or in free agency. Those are the two biggest needs. Courtney Upshaw would make a lot of sense if Miami is able to sign Matt Flynn. I'd also love to have Kendal Wright as a deep threat opposite Brandon Marshall. Can't wait to see what we do in free agency.

I for one would have absolutely no problem with drafting DEcastro. He is athletic, tough, and will start day one and may even go to probowl first year. thats right i said it.

its real simple, if he is a pro bowl type, you cant lose. Pouncey, we did not lose, regardless what any schmoe who wanted Mallett says.

And I cannot stress enough about the importance of protecting your investment at QB.

I dont want expensive FA. I would be happy with Flynn, then build through draft. Riley Reiff at #8 would be BPA and fill our biggest need. In my mind it would be stupidity not to take him.
