Assuming the playing staff stays in place and that only a 1st round pick would start, how would you handle both?

Resign

Paul Soliai, Brent Grimes, Nolan Carroll, Chris Clemons

Release

Matt Moore, Dimitri Patterson

Sign

Jared Veldheer OT, Wade Smith OG.

1st round pick

Cyrus Kouandijio

Veldheer will be tagged

Kouandijo is slow footed and Bama prospects are overrated.

Why would you outright release Moore and Patterson? Right now we have a ton of cap space. They could be valuable to others in a trade, especially Moore. If their cap number is too high, you try to renegotiate with them before you just let them go.

If they are willing to renegotiate, I would call them in the office, but as it stands, they would be released

Not sure as they have Lamarr Houston too.

As it stands he is my choice. Cyrus IMO is the OT with the most upside. DJ Fluker has played decent this year and Cyrus is a far better player and prospect

Kouandijio was getting cooked in the bowl game...we already have a few OL that accomplish that task...no thanks

I don't even want to think about what this idiot will do or who he will overpay.
He will probably resign Mckinnie and get faster linebackers.

I'm okay with releasing Matt Moore, in the NFL, your backup should only be a 2 game stopgap if your starter goes down. Most teams accept that if their starter goes down for the long-term its time to bring in the backup to see if he can make it. We already know Matt Moore is a bottom of the league starter/high-end backup at his best. Not good enough for 4 million when we could use that to get a legit starting guard or center. As for Soliai....I'd resign Soliai or Starks whichever gives me the bigger discount, then draft a DT somewhere in the mid-rounds to compete for a backup role and get AJ Francis more playing time. Grimes is a no-brainer(honestly I can't believe this hasn't been done already, thanks Jeffy). Keep Patterson, his # is not huge, his contract is only for one year, he has incentive to play well, and when he's healthy he's a legit corner. Give the two draft picks another year to season. And keep Carroll in case Patterson has injury bugs again. I'd look to sign the Rams right tackle if you can get him cheaply enough, or resign McKinnie. I still think bringing in Alex Mack and moving Pouncey to guard would make two positions immediately better.

You should never be paying your backup qb 5.5 million unless he is damn awesome and Moore is not that guy.
3 to 4 million would be ok at best

just make devlin the backup...tannehill just got hit and sacked way more than any qb in football and he still almost took every snap...i would hope we protect the kid a little better in 2014...

put that money elsewhere

Makes sense we could have used that money to bring back Bush.
Hell we still had plenty of cap space to do that but went dumpster diving.

dont need bush back either...offense is primarily 3 wide single back single tight end...what we need to do is get a damn oline

We did this year, he could have helped the offense with his receiving out of the backfield.
Nobody on line was impressive this yeat including Pouncey although compared to rest he looked great.
No clue who voted him into pro bowl this year but he had the name.
Doesn't help either for our line that none of our Te's blocked worth a damn

I hate the finesse offense that Joe has constructed. Blah...

Give me what I see from the Niners.

I agree with the FA and releases. I don't know about Veldheer and Wade, but there will be plenty of OLmen in FA. I strongly disagree with taking OLmen in 1st round.
