2014 PFF Free Agency Tracker

Nice break from the FO drama!
We need to lock up Grimes and a couple other of our FA's. But there are a couple of FA's we could get who would greatly help us out. I agree with Gerhart, he likely won't re-sign with Min as a backup to AP any longer. He's talented and he knows the clock is ticking. Keller would be nice, but I'm afraid his injury may not allow him back for most of this next season (or longer). Still a couple of other TE's that could be good. A couple of good CB's to go with Grimes, might not be a bad option, but we'll need to decide to upgrade via the draft at either CB or LB, but probably not get enough for both (after drafting some linemen).

Roger saffold, Toby gerhart, and dustin Keller sound like likely free agent signings

Saffold can't be depended on because of his injury history. He only played in 8 full games this year, 9 last year, & 9 in 2011.

The two offensive lineman we should target are LT Anthony Collins & G Geoff Schwartz. In 592 snaps at LT Collins allowed zero sacks & ZERO QBs hits. He's only 28. In his four years in the league he's only played in more than half the game's snaps 15 times but has never rated negatively in any of them. Geoff Schwartz, also 28, is a versatile offensive lineman that excels in the run game. In 2010 he was +19.2 (+11.3 run) for Carolina starting at RG & RT. In 2011 he suffered a hip impingement & was out for the year forcing him to sign a one year contract with Minnesota as he recoverd. In 2012 for the Vikes he was +5.8 as a reserve. Again signing a one year deal with Kansas City, was a reserve G/RT until week 11 when he took the RG spot from Jon Asamoah. He was +18.3 (+9.0 run) this year. I wouldn't envision either one of these guys commanding top dollar on the market & signing both of these guys would free up our first round pick to take the best available player regardless of position. We can grab a starting LG & RT within the first four rounds of the draft & bring back Clabo on a one year deal for insurance at RT.

As for a bigger RB, I would not sign Gerhart. Later in the draft is the way to go with situational RBs & they're cheaper. Hyde, Hill, Williams, West, Wilder, Andrews, & Gaffney are all 220+ lbs & have draftable grades.

Jon Asamoah, Rodger Saffold and or Breno Giacomini. Those are the guys we need to go after. Young, athletic and not breaking bank like Albert or Smith.

Wow! Get out of my head. Signing Collins and Schwartz would allow Miami to go BPA in the draft. That alone would make my offseason.

This year's FA is a BIG concern. There is not much out there on the OL. Guys I like in Collins and a KC RG have not been proven over time, and may not even be available of very overpriced.

In a perfect world I'd keep Grimes and Starks, then pick up Eugene Monroe and Jon Asamoah. In the draft, I'd trade up for Sammy Watkins, and if not feasible I'd sit and take Lee, Evans, or Ebron.

I can dream right?

This all depends on what Lazor wants to employ as his blocking scheme next year. If he stays in the ZBS then Jon Asamoah at RG and Zane Beadles at LG make a lot of sense or grab Eugene Monroe to play LT and draft Su'a-Filo to play LG instead of Beadles.

Not sure we can sign more than 2 free agents this year given all of our own free agents we need to re-sign (Soliai/Starks, Grimes, Clemons for another year probably, Nolan Carroll, I'd bring Yeatman back and possibly McKinnie as insurance if we can't get someone in the draft).

If Philbin let him in the door to change his ZBS I would be SHOCKED, and then some. My big concern is that some of the guys we want and need will not be available. I've read where Monroe "agreed" to a new deal when he went to Balt.

One side issue. I have th utmost respect for you as a very knowledgeable poster, and I met and like McKennie from his Cane days.

However, he sucked as a Phin, as a Raven, and for the year. He is DONE.

Yeah I would prefer to move on from McKinnie...while he wasn't getting pushed back as often as Martin was he was still giving up a lot of sacks. He's clearly lost a step but we may be forced to re-sign one or two guys on the O-line simply because it's not realistic to think we can get 4 new O-lineman in our situation. If this was last year with all the cap space and 9 draft picks I would have said different but I think we only have 6 draft picks (don't know what the conditional was for McKinnie) and not a lot of money to spend in free agency. Every agent that represents an O-lineman will try to hold us over a barrel since they know we'll be desperate to sign some decent cornfed.

I'd resign Grimes, Carroll and Clemons and either Big Paul or Starks(all before FA starts please)....whichever gave us the best discount. That could leave us without 'needing' anything major on D. Couple olineman, I like Keller on a one-year deal, then go BPA throughout the draft. Draft explosiveness and let them develop for a year behind the starters. Maybe a running back in FA too, I wouldn't mind dumping Daniel Thomas, and I liked the Gillislee pick, but not much return for it so far.
