What does are cap situation look like next year? I know Odrick and Pouncey and soon after RT will be looking for extensions. We need to extend guys like Clay, Moreno, and Delmas as well. I see WR and CB as top priority in the off season. Will we have any cap space to bring people in?

IMO the following should be cut to create cap space. I think we're carrying like 8 million over.

Ellerbe - 5.5 million
Finnegan - 5.5 million
Gibson - 2 million
Hartline - 2 million
Wheeler - 200K

These are rough estimates. I think Moreno needs to be brought back and Clay and Odrick should be resigned..... as well as Pouncey. Obviously we need to plan for the future as well with Tannehill. Will we have any cash to bring in any free agents in 2015?

I still want to know who Wheeler did to get such a bullet proof deal. The guy sucks so bad but all his money is guaranteed.

It truely is a head scratcher.

There's no explaining what went on in that pea sized brain of Ireland

Moreno is not coming back and the way Sims is playing, I think Clay is expendable. At the very least, all of Miami's FA's should be allowed to hit the market so they can see what they are worth.

Wheeler got that deal because nobody would sign withIreland without that kind of deal.

It's not bullet proof it is a signature move of Aponte really, the contract is really easy to move away from in the 2016, just like Ellerbe's. Wallace is the same, she inks basically a three year deal and after that it is easy to move the player if he isn't working out, the dead money drops significantly after the third year.

Let them all go. We've nerve won anything with them anyway....lol

Not understanding why people want to cut Finnegan. He's been solid, and his salary is fair market value for a starting CB. We need 3 solid CB's, and if we lose Finnegan, we will replace him with someone who is likely not as good or someone who is more expensive.

Ellerbe is gone - I can't see any other outcome. There's no gain in cutting Wheeler other than a roster space. I doubt he'll be set free until next year.

Personally, I would dump both Hartline and Gibson and draft/sign two new receivers pretty high up. Hartline and Gibson are poor system fits, whatever about their own talents or otherwise.

Finnegan is a no-brainer as a slot receiver (whoa! that's "corner", dumbass). We just need a good boundary guy to compete with Taylor for the spot. If we could snag Walter Thurmond away from the Giants after his year out injured, he'd be a nice pickup imo.

I know you meant slot corner. I would keep Finnegan too. There's always the fear that his play will drop off significantly...these injuries to his lower body the last few years can have that effect but he's been a surprising great leader for the younger CBs and a positive influence. We most definitely need another CB in this draft though. Preferable one with a little size 5'10"+.

I also agree about Hartline and Gibson...I think drafting a big WR in the 1st would be my preference...we also have Matt Hazel on the practice squad who has speed and played well in the final preseason game last year but he was making a big jump from Coastal Carolina to the NFL...the year on the practice squad may have him ready to be the 5th WR next year.

The big savings as follows:

Starks $5
Ellerbe $5.5
Gibson $3
Hartline $3.5
Finnegan $5

People keep talking about Wheeler but his $200K savings keeps him on the squad unless this coaching staff hates him that much. I'm not saying he will be a starting LB, but finance wise, no point in paying the $5 mill just to leave.

Brandon Fields is also one to talk about $3.25 savings and he hasn't exactly been the Pro Bowl guy from previous years.

Big Name FA's

Clay
Odrick
Pouncey ($7.5 team option available)

I belive Finnegan $5 is not on the books until AFTER the draft so this allows us to see who we can aquire, how Davis and Taylor are healing and developing etc.

My fear is we chop Finnegan and either 1. Draft a ready to play CB in the 1st-2nd rounds or 2. Take Finny money and chase a younger mid-tier FA CB.

Was going to post the same thing. He is a big asset to the team, not only with his play but veteran presence and attitude. Going up against Steve Smith this week, I want Finnegan out there for sure. Keep him and Grimes together.
