The cornerback position is a glaring need that the Miami Dolphins absolutely must address in order to fill the void opposite Pro Bowler Brent Grimes. The front office pursued the veteran route in Cortland Finnegan, and that failed. Two more corners - Jamar Taylor and Will Davis - were drafted only two years ago, but have so far failed to prosper.

Despite this, the position is not a hotly contested topic among Dolphins fans and the media.

Many yearn for the flashy wide receiver in the upcoming draft. Devante Parker seems to get the top vote, and for good reason. While he appears to be the red zone threat that Ryan Tannehill really could use, he's also just about the only player that is worthy of the pick at No. 14.

This is the main problem for Miami. The draft offers a tremendous amount of depth, but lacks star quality. In fact, from the middle of the first round to the early second round, there really isn't much difference in talent.

the second-round corners offer better value than those in the first round that can challenge, and start, from day one. Don't be surprised if Miami chooses one.

I would love Kevin Johnson i round 2 but I am no longer confident he will be there at #47.

Trading with Philly for Boykin would help a lot assuming the compensation is fair.

Later round corners may be a "value", but they most likely won't play better.

There is a big reason Waynes and Peters and Collins are top 15 pics. Its their talent!!

This is another big mistake miami has made over the years, especially in the first round and f/a, value instead of all out talent! The all world sacrifice of Earl Thomas ( when we needed Safety's in the worst way) for the ho-hum, big value Jarod Rderick comes to mind.

This team has found every way possible over the years to NOT bring in talent and the value excuse is at the top of those explanations.

YES!! We need corners in the worst way and if any of the top 3 are there they better pounce!! There are lots of players worthy at #14 in this draft and we can sit right there and grabb a productive, day one starter. If we chose to. Trading down a few spots, with emphasis on few, will still land us a top 14 talent pick. However, those 3 corners are the difference. If only one is left come time at #14, we grab them and do any trading for extra pics in the 2nd round.

So I guess if I have a TV destruction situation, passing on Waynes, Peters or Collins at 14 would be it. I want a BPA draft instead of a Value draft for a change. Quality over quantity.

Drafting for value is drafting for talent. If a player offers more value at 14 than any of the corner backs that means he is the more talented player. Your argument is more in line with drafting for need (not that it's necessarily a bad thing if the value is still respectable). Of course, if you think Waynes, Peters, and Collins are among the top 14 players in this draft then obviously taking one would be drafting for both overall talent and need. Not sure how many would agree with you on that though.

I keep going back and forth in my mind over who I'd want at #14

Bottom line: I want a damn stud, and I think there are several positions we could potentially address in the first. It all depends on how the draft falls to us.

Agreed. Maybe we could get him for one of our 5ths but that may be light.

Maybe we could swing something crazy in a trade with Philly, #14 for their 1st and Boykin

Or our first & Jordan, for their first, Boykin, and a 2nd or 3rd?

Total pipe dream

The 2nd round will most likely have Marcus Peters, Kevin Johnson, PJ Williams, Byron Jones, Quentin Rollins, Ronald Darby and Alex Carter... BUT it will also be our only shot at the 2nd best inside linebacker Perryman and the 3rd best receiver (imo) in Phillip Dorsett. They'll have to choose wisely....

Picking up Boykin and a 3rd for a trade down to Phillies 20 would be the best scenario possible. Nothing more nothing less. I think 14 = 20, 84 and Boykin.

Plus, in the 3rd you can have a shot at Ifo Ekpre-Olomu.

Yeah johnsons not getting to 47...think hes in the 20 to 40 range and i'd lean the earlier side of things

Jamar Taylor was a 2nd round pick that has not even had an opportunity to play a full season yet, but played well until his shoulder injury. However, many of the posters here feel that we should use our 1st on this position as opposed to glaring holes without even functional starters (WR, MLB, G). How do supporters of the Waynes pick justify this?

How's Pj Williams hoops? He will definitely slide down due to the dui

I'm not sure Johnson nor Peters makes it to 47, but they will most likely be taken somewhere in the 2nd.

Boykin could be that stud slot guy and Ifo can be your boundary guy opposite Grimes. 2 birds 1 stone.

IF we could get all that for just our pick, you'd be crazy not to take it. Talk about value!

Not to change the subject on position, but I think your mocks are pretty solid Mateo. I've been trying to read up on Chickillo and it seems he was miscast as a 34 end but has some upside in a 43 and he was looking leaner at his pro day.. If we could get him real late that could be a potential steal maybe?

I need to update it because I highly doubt he's there in the 5th let alone the 6th. He's making his waves. The value might be gone now, but I think he's a strong side 4-3 DE in the NFL.

I dont know i havent looked at his tape but that dui right after his pro day i think will effect him...i heard jalen collins has had some disciplinary issues multiple times while at lsu

As for peters no way that gets to 47 unless people have just completely removed it from boards...if they havent i think hes top 20 to 25 worst case...i could see if miami hasnt removed him from our board him as a target in trade down...although i stick by the if youve been kicked off your college team miamis not taking you

Hell i could even see him at 14 but again is he even on our board?
