While the Senior Bowl and East-West Shrine Game are more well-known, they aren't the only pre-draft all-star events where NFL prospects can audition for pro scouts. The College Gridiron Showcase is one of those lesser known exhibition games and will be played this Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
The College Gridiron Showcase, which is a first-year event, is divided into two teams, the Wranglers and the Desperados. Practices for the exhibition started on Tuesday and several players stood in front of the few dozen scouts, including two NFL general managers, in attendance.
Practice notes from the Wranglers practice:
- The most impressive player on either roster on Tuesday was Monmouth WR Neal Sterling, who is well-built (6-3, 239) and although he lacks ideal speed, his routes were controlled with no wasted movement, allowing him to gain a step on defensive backs. Sterling showed some lower body burst to plant-and-go in his breaks with strong hands to be a reliable finisher at the catch point, boasting a large catching radius with his 33-inch arms.
