Every year scouts have to play the role of private investigators to determine which prospects made a mistake or two and have since matured and which are likely to continue to make poor decisions off the field. This year's class has its share of talented but troubled prospects. Here are a few of the prospects invited to the 2015 NFL combine that scouts will want to investigate. Players are listed alphabetically

Frank Clark, DE, Michigan

The Concern: Was arrested in November on a misdemeanor domestic violence and assault charges and was dismissed from the team. This comes approximately two years after Clark was arrested and initially charged with felony theft for stealing a laptop.

The Bottom Line: The 6-foot-2, 270-pounder racked up 120 tackles, 35 tackles for loss and 11 sacks in 48 games for Michigan. Clark is physical and intense and could make a 4-3 team as a rotational defensive end.

Dorial Green-Beckham, WR, Oklahoma

The Concern: Was twice charged with marijuana-related crimes while at Missouri and was dismissed from the program after an investigation for burglary and assault. Signed on with Oklahoma in 2014 under the presumption that he'd play for the Sooners after sitting out the mandatory one year per NCAA rules but elected to enter the NFL draft.

The Bottom Line: Rated by some as the elite prep talent in the country when he signed with Missouri, DGB possesses a top 10 talent, evoking comparisons to Cincinnati Bengals star A.J. Green for his grace, speed and catch radius. Some team will gamble on him earlier than his rap sheet suggests is prudent, perhaps as early as the first round.

A.J. Johnson, ILB, Tennessee:

The Concern: Johnson was indicted on two counts of rape by a grand jury on Thursday. He was dismissed from the team in November when he and former teammate Michael Williams were first accused of the crimes. Previously Johnson was arrested for purchasing alcohol for a minor and resisting arrest.

The Bottom Line: Johnson has been an ultra-productive player for Tennessee (425 career tackles) but he lacks top speed to the perimeter and struggles to disengage from blocks. He'd be a fringe draft pick without the off-field concerns.

Did not know that about A.J. Johnson...I didn't like him before but now he's completely radioactive.

aj johnson wouldnt help us anyways...just add to the lost lbs on the roster

this is who I want to draft in the 1st round

Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Mississippi St. (6'5" 250) ~
Guys with the size that McKinney has seldom have accompanying top-level skill and speed to match. McKinney is a tackling machine and should be poised to move up draft boards once teams have the chance to see him in person. He would give a boost to a Dolphins defense that finished 24th against the run in 2014.

you may just get your wish...i definitely think that's a possible play

That's one I'd be rooting against.

Down the road he may turn out to be a pretty good linebacker...he may not. He might be nothing more than a two down thumper with little to no pre snap diagnosis ability but enough of an athlete to react quick enough to make a play. He might never be more than an assignment area defender in the passing game or maybe the light comes on and he improves as a pass defender who can run with TEs or play in space but that's not the player at #14 I'd be willing to take a chance on. There's a little too much boom or bust there for me.

He already does all pre-snap calls for his defense.

Pre-snap calls do not equal pre-snap diagnosis. Also, in the following game film it looks to me that #42 is making a lot of pre-snap calls. In the game against Auburn I saw a guy who was slow to the play, missed a few tackles and got blocked out of the play a lot by O-lineman. Not someone I would take at 14.

I don't see the huge problem here tbh, can you point out specific plays?

I agree he's not the best at getting off the block, but honestly, how many linebackers are good st getting off the block against an olinemen? Everything else he seems pretty good, if he was great at everything he would be locked in as a top 5 pick with his size and athletism.

Yeah, his insticts need to get quicker, no doubt about it, but I don't think he's that far away from being there.

I wouldn't even love this pick, but I don't think he's as raw as your making him out to be, and I certainly would understand the pick.

To me he's just a guy. Don't see a player worth the #14 overall pick. That game above didn't show any impact plays...we've already got a squad full of guys that don't make enough impact plays. I want a playmaker...not the hope of a playmaker. I just think there are a lot of players that would have a bigger impact on the team in terms of wins and losses than McKinney would.

Imo, Perryman is the more complete backer compared to McKinney or Kendricks and even him I wouldn't take with the 14th pick... Trade down or no play for ILB or you won't get much value for that pick.

I dunno, Dawson is really moving up the boards for me. I underrated how damn good at football he is.

At worst, you probably end up at a guy who is top 10 in tackles every year.

He's not the sexy pick at 14, but unless you do something in free agency, or believe Jordan Tripp is ready to make the leap Jenkins did last year, than Dawson becomes a legit target at 14.

Dawson is going higher than projected either way imo.
